  • Took me a while to figure out how those work. Perhaps I was being a bit slow.
    Looks neat!

  • Looks a bit complicated for a simple bloke like me.

Just having a spot of lunch before I tackle installing the cantilever arms. Not feeling confident!

  • BTW why did you go with that stem? Isn't it bit too low? Looks more like a pista stem

  • That went better than expected.

  • work of art

  • It's one of these:

Admittedly, I've got it a bit too slammed at the moment. I'll sort that out once it's on the road.

Must also get hold of the bell!

  • Flying along now!

  • This is going to look great. Wish I'd had the foresight to order one of these before the closure...

  • Front rack installed:

  • Are those braze ons half way down the forks for a rack?

  • this is so nice, have deep green envy but in a really good way : )

  • nice work!

  • Looks incredible, really looking forward to watching this progress. Don't canti brake pads normally sit a bit more perpendicular to the the canti brake arm, rather than in a straight line?

  • Don't canti brake pads normally sit a bit more perpendicular to the the canti brake arm, rather than in a straight line?

Not fully sure I understand what you mean by that.

This is only the second bike I have set up - or attempted to set up - with Canti's.

I definitely think there is a bit more adjustment / fettling to be done before they are correct.

  • Did a few more bits - fitted the bottle cages, rear mech and cassette, and I am now done for the day.

This could potentially be on the road tomorrow.

The way the front rack is currently mounted (which I believe is correct), it is currently impossible to remove or replace the decaleur without raising the stem.

As this bike will be set up as a light tourer, I guess it would be normal for the stem to be somewhat raised in any case. I'll have a bit of a play tomorrow, but if I take it much higher, I'll have to re-cable the brakes, which is frustrating.

  • You won't have to recable the brakes, you have plenty of excess below the straddle, just undo the nut and give yourself more cable from hanger to straddle.
    Looking great by the way.

  • I was thinking more about the cable outer, from the lever to the hanger and from the lever to the first stop on the top tube.

    And thanks!

  • I would say you have at least an inch or two to play with on the outer too.

  • First job this morning was to raise the stem about an inch.

Now have sufficient room to use the decaleur. It also looks like @jontea was right about the cables.

    Quick coffee, then drivetrain.

  • Is it done yet, or are you on a "council" coffee break?

  • Actually just had lunch!

Took it for a quick spin round the block.

Gears and brakes need some adjustment, but it’s more or less there.

    Will tape the bars shortly.

Need to sort out a decent seat post, and get some cages and straps for my posh pedals.

  • Very nice, and quite possibly the last Bob,may it serve you well.

  • Looks a bit complicated for a simple bloke like me.

If I managed, anyone can (noting I haven't had a chance to ride it yet...)
