^I used to skate that little bridge bump in Vitoria a few times a week. It’s right next to the basque parliament. When I live there all the eta stuff was still kicking off. Once skated it with my mate and the whole park was full of military police all in black with balaclavas and lots of guns, all just standing watching us skate. Bit freaky. CSB

Just bought a board. Going to try and learn.

Good luck with it, I picked up a board in the summer but fudged my knee which put a stop to things. Keen to get started again but this weather isn't helping. Have you got somewhere local to skate?

Wish I could still risk skateboarding. I miss longboarding. Might try dig out my slalom board and remind myself why I had to stop (hip/knee/ankle injuries).

I'm going to take a couple of lessons I think. Yesterday I went from one end of the kitchen to the other and at 39 that was my first time on a skateboard. So, there's a long way to go.

My 11 yo son asked me to take lessons too so we can go skate together. I'm 48 and not sure if I will, considering the fact that, since he started skating 3 yrs ago, he broke his ankle, upper arm and (this weekend) the Radius of his lower left arm. Not mentioning last years' concussion and the several bruises and hematoma. But it looks fun, that's true.

Niiice! I’m wondering whether I should get a board just to keep my oar in should my kids decide they want to skate. It’s been about 15 years since I did anything, but the assistant I had at work a year or two ago was really into skating and got me interested again.

Just don’t start following skaters on insta. It’s a slippery slope toward addiction.

Good call, i'm 40 and haven't skated for almost 30 years so i should probably do the same.
If you're anywhere near Sydenham the retail carpark (outside B&Q) is popular with older skaters and is a good spot to practise. Smooth, lots of space and i've seen a few beginners there.

Have fun! I lasted about 12 months into my 'start skating again after 20year break'. I scared myself silly and learnt a few new tricks, but falling like a sack of potatoes left me constantly bruised and sore. Falling on coping at 37 is a whole different thing than when you're 15. I was mostly bowl skating and little ledges. Now I just push around after kids. Ace trucks and oj keyframes give a lovely smooth feeling.

I'd like to help my 12 y/o nephew out by getting him a new board.
He was using something that was clearly cheap / generic but could Ollie on it and was getting kick flips and shove it's nearly dialled until it snapped.
Any suggestions for an uncle to help out? I'd take anything second hand if it could be posted.

@Señor_Bear
Have you had much practice falling over?
Serious question. You may want to swap over to larger, softer wheels(the type that aren't meant to leave the ground) and learn basic moving about in comfort.

I can tell him a thing or two about falling over... badly.

it’s the small details: am feeling the variable coping that goes from ‘noping’ to ‘board-as-dangling-ornament’ : )

My daughter who is four and a half has announced that she wants a skateboard. What age did skaters on the forum get their kids on a board? She’s a fearless thing, climbs anything, rides a bike and three wheel micro scooter. Cheers

Just bought my oldest a skateboard for his 6th birthday. Held off for a year, but he never relented in his endless pursuit of asking for one.
He's picking it up pretty quick and the kids at the local skateparks are great with free teaching!
RIP Keith Hufnagel.
