I don't doubt that he could've found them, but claiming he was holding on to them to return to an officer is ridiculous, a child would see through that alibi.

a child would see through that alibi.
It's a pity that he will probably come up before a Trump-appointed Judge,
who will not have the wisdom of the child. -

Don't the police do this at riots in the US - leave piles of bricks on the route as traps - then as soon as anyone touches them they get a kicking and arrested.
Funny that this is even being proffered as a serious excuse here when he's apparently picking up real police riot kit compared to a bunch of rubble.

There's images doing the rounds on twitter of a bag belonging to Capitol Hill police containing restraints and wristbands (for marking detainees) https://twitter.com/jsrailton/status/1347451352780304384
EDIT this is the link I meant

I think that was a false rumour that was circulating during the BLM riots.

There's also a photo of a police officer with the bag before it kicked off.

I mean, we know it was a premeditated attack and they bought assault rifles, molatov cocktails, pipe bombs, tasers, pepper spray etc with them. They may also have bought flex cuffs too. Just trying to point out that it's less obvious whether the flex cuffs were premeditated or not.

Yeah I'm with you - I was more focussed on his terrible attempt at explaining why he picked them up.
and yeah the image of the bag with the officer is in the reply tweets.
EDIT cant seem to link to the specific tweet, guess I've reached the limit of my internetting abilities

It's from early 2020, but it seems to match. Someone in the comments suggests that: 'No Officer's carry is that disorganized.' Well, yeah, not before it's been rifled through by looters.

Another thing that seems fortunate is that there are no reports of rioters getting any of the police's weapons.

He was wearing combat gear and a sidearm on the floor of the capital chamber, having broken in, while senators and congress hid in neighbouring buildings. Who gives a fuck whether he found his plastic handcuffs or brought them? Throw the fucking book at him. Once again the fog of web chatter clouds the essential conversation.
-
• #14338
it's nice reading news reports of this person and that person identified arrested and facing long prison terms, lets hope the judges aren't republicans
-
• #14339
It is nice. Although I think the hero worship they are getting from the people with whom they identify is sufficient reward for them regardless of prison?
-
• #14340
That's OK, because it's not our job to throw the book at him. He will have it thrown at him. As I previously said in another context, the really important thing is what happens to Trump.

Can you explain your opinion on this a bit better? Isn't premeditation of major importance when it comes to trial and sentencing for a crime?

There’s a box of Nitrile gloves in that duffle bag: seems more likely that a police officer would carry PPE than a terrorist

My opinion is that he should be fucked regardless of his intent or ownership of the ties. They should be a footnote in his prosecution

Totally agree but also think its quite important that each case be judged in the facts that are still being established.
Was amazed to read that the flex cuffs chap's taser might not even be illegal to carry in the Capitol. The US only prevents firearms from being in there and tasers aren't consider firearms in the USA

i bet loads of rednecks are watching old episodes of the dukes of hazzard working out how they're gonna bust bubba out of prison right under the nose of sheriff roscoe p coltraine and boss hogg
rednecks, who will in turn end up in prison for their ill thought through plans and poor execution
-
• #14346
You'd think they'd be more upset that Daisy got shot.
-
• #14347
The fact that very few of them had firearms also seems like a good argument for the whole thing being premeditated, as they're usually dripping in AR rifles and handguns, but carrying them in would've made the Capitol Hill police much more likely to open fire. The incident of the woman that was shot whilst climbing through a door is very disturbing, but the whole thing could've been so much worse if they charged in weapons drawn.

I read earlier that the owner of the car that had the heavy artillery in had multiple sets of keys for the car when he was arrested.
At a guess, the plan was to hand out the keys so people could arm themselves if shooting started.
Chilling.
-
• #14349
Ahh I hadn't heard anything about this car.

• #14350
Sounds like it was intended to be a mobile armoury.
