  • @Ifonlyiwerebelgian great ride! Love the deep metallic hue and component selection.

Just an opinion but I find those brown/silver levers awful from an aesthetics point of view.

The black ones do a better job of hiding the shape and then the contrived drillium on these... no thanks!

  • Thanks.

Thats why I went black levers in the first place.

  • How are getting on with DT shifters? I think I’ve got some silver panto’d ones in the parts bin if they’re of interest?

  • Fair enough, I’m not a huge fan of the design in general, but I think the silver and drillium could work in this slightly neo-retro application. I’m not sure I agree that the black levers do a better job of hiding the shape since they draw additional attention due to the colour mismatch. If it was my bike I’d probably keep the black ones as well, rather than buying another pair and having the black ones end up in the spare parts drawer.
P.s. I absolutely adore that anniversary frame, it’s such a great and unique combination of old and new elements!

  • Having been down the neo retro silver sram levers with gum hoods route I think it could work, however the gum on the levers suggested is too faux brown... on that note I’d vote to leave the black levers and switch in a slate cambium and cambium tape, and black GK’s cos tubeless and gumwall isn’t really a thing... still love the build though 👌

  • 99% done. Now I've got the carradice rack and mudflaps sorted. I think a pair of Rene Herse tyres would be spot on for it.

  • @Ifonlyiwerebelgian That's a really nice randoneur build!

In the process of buying a Champion Mondial AB-frame at the moment. On your experience, what would you say about the tire clearance on the AB frame, do you think I'll be able to fit 28 or 32 mm tires with regards to chainstay and bridge clearance?

    Karl

  • I managed to get 32mm Gravel King on 700c archetypes on my AB, no more space in the front for more than that... no issues in the rear but you could go bigger on 650b as @Ifonlyiwerebelgian has...

  • Thanks!

The 650b-build is made on the A-frame, will that have different tire clearance from the AB and AA-frame? Geometry seems a bit different on the A if I'm reading this chart correctly (from the 1991 Gazelle modelbook).

  • My rando frame is indeed an A-Frame. I don't have the AB frame to hand at the moment but I seem to recall it has 25s in. 28s would be fine.

As @mattyc says, its the fork that is the limiting factor. Will depend on how old the fork is though, the older models with lugged fork have more clearance

  • So. Im going to shelve my AB frame build for a bit as I've got this on its way to me.

  • Niiiiiiiiice! Congrats! Had to get it to match the jersey yeah?
    What are the build plans?

  • Cheers. Further ahead than wheels, I cant decide. I've got some decent hubs laying around so going to to build up some of these.

This build is going to be a slow burner though.

  • David Lee Roth?

Lovely frame, looing forward to seeing this built up.

I've got a similar harlequin coloured Simoncini and just seeing the colour explosion puts a smile on my face before I've even ridden it. I hope you're going full bore with the appropriate kit, sunglasses and silly hat.

  • yes! love it

Otherwise I was going to suggest DT Swiss OXIC for the shallow always black brake track look...

  • They look nice, but they are pricey. I've got some bontrager hubs that are basically DT 240s which will be spot on.

  • 100% I will go full kit. If you are going to look like a tit, you may as well look a proper tit!

  • Haha, one thing they do have in common is the love for spandex.

But I believe it's the former Dutch pro Gert-Jan Theunisse.

  • Ohh nice you actually bought it.

You won't be disappointed, best Gazelle I've owned.

I had mine on DA-7410 with DP18s at one point.

  • This is for sure, the coolest Gazelle paint scheme i have ever seen.
This would go nice with DA 7400 (for me is the best looking DA groupset), or do something different and go for a Retro-Modern build with modern Shimano (sorry i do preffer this to Sram or Campa).

  • It will be a modern groupset for sure, i prefer the functionality. Not sure what yet. I like the thought of DA 9100 but its silly money.

  • Black or silver finishing kit? I'm learning towards black, as all my other gazelles are silver. The team used a mix so I don't feel compelled towards either colour for accuracy.

Excuse the shite phone app mockups
