  • I rewatched 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri last night. Not as good as I remembered. Some great performances but just felt a bit flat, like a colder, more 2 dimensional attempt at a Coen Brothers film. Still worth a watch though.

I also rewatched The Royal Tenenbaums a few nights ago and loved it more than ever. I do generally like Wes Anderson but find most of his newer stuff to be a bit too twee for my taste. The Royal Tenenbaums has all the parts of a Wes Anderson film that I enjoy, a great soundtrack, great performances and just the right amount of stylisation. I can't stop thinking about the scene with the Elliott Smith song.

  • I must’ve been the only person that didn’t enjoy 3 billboards. Thought it was a total stinker.

I also watched Tenenbaums a couple of nights ago. Absolutely love it.
It’s funny you mention the twee stuff - it’s exactly why I chose Tenenbaums over Grand Budapest (although I’ll probably give that another watch soon).

If you liked Tenenbaums, I reckon you’d enjoy The Meyerowitz Stories too, which is on Netflix. A bit straighter, but similar character focused story and dry humour.
