  • Jokes aside, the Crown Estate does command higher rents because of its Royal status so in the hypothetical situation that the Monarchy was abolished I suspect receipts would be affected.

    Don't underestimate the perceived cachet of paying rent to the Queen to live on her land.

    I don't really care, a few million when totted up against everything else we've wasted in the last few years is nothing, but also I suspect that if there's a perceived cachet of paying rent to the Queen then there's a pretty similar perceived cachet of paying rent to whoever manages historically royal land.
