  • These look great, red means they will be nice & fast too.

  • Fwiw after a few more runs, the More Mile Cheviot 4's are coping very well with the mudslop around here. My usual offroad trainers aren't upto gripping the new levels of sludge following a year of higher foot traffic on the paths so I'm very grateful to whoever shared the link to buy these a while back.

  • The hotel I stayed in when I was in Beijing in December had no heating. My employers were paying so it wasn’t like I was on a budget. Had to use all the bedding to keep vaguely warm at night.

  • @yoshy - d'ya reckon you'll get another crack at 5km today or tomorrow? The pavements may be clear but there might be icy patches still?

  • Heating is only allowed north of the Yangtze River :(

  • Ooof that's not cool (in fact, it's pretty damn cold), Beijing heating is normally excellent - when I've been there in winter I've had to open the window open to stop from overheating.

  • Nice, thanks, will check it out!

  • The wind was blowing from the north too, which was good in some respects as the pollution was blown south and you could see the mountains to the north. But bad as it was below freezing. The hotel was across the road from the office though so didn’t really need to venture outside too often.

  • Unlikely I think. My run 2 days ago was horrendous, I felt totally incapable! I don't know if it was Christmas indulgence or that I'd ventured off road (don't fancy pavement w/the frost) for the first time in a while but it just wasn't happening. I've felt really stiff and immobile since too. Maybe related to the level of slop? Like you said, it's horrendous at the moment.
Above excuses aside I'm over the moon with 20:01 after some focused running and happy to chill out and enjoy it for a bit before thinking of targets again :)

  • Anyone else’s Garmin watch struggling to connect to GPS? Taking an absolute age at the moment, and just got back from a run without it recording any route.

  • Mine did that a couple of months ago. It sometimes happens when memory is full. Think I deleted all activities and restarted it and it was fine after.

  • I've felt really stiff and immobile since too. Maybe related to the level of slop?

I find I can sometimes run a lot more tense in the slop. This leads to higher hr and weird aches after. Maybe a similar experience for you there?

Good plan to enjoy a relaxed start to 2021 and then watch your times continue to drop!

  • If they did brown I would have chosen those.

  • Disguise the mud?

  • It seems John Kelly started an unsupported winter bgr earlier. Only at midnight he'll find he's in a tier 4 area which he technically mustn't leave.

  • Well. That's mad.

  • similar experience

I think so? Maybe? I've never noticed it before though. Not going to worry too much about it until its the norm!

  • Anyone got any specific targets for 2021?

Having said I'm not thinking about future targets I'd like to see:
-improvements in pace up to and maybe including half marathon
    -a plod around a non-event marathon
    -more non-local running

  • (run longer and faster)

  • Marathon and half marathon pbs are big on the list of ambitions currently 3:10:19 and 1:23:49.

Did my biggest ever run week last week so feel like I’m in a good place, plus there is mechanical doping these days with carbon bouncy shoes....

Would like to think I can get sub 18 minutes at a park run again on the way, although most of the people I used to chase at my local course seem to have moved on from running...

A pair of vapourfly’s arrived today with these goals in mind, tried on to check they fit and they will be hidden away for a couple of months before any racing takes place!

  • Hey folks,

After 1 month of stretching, foam rolling & resting and my runners knee hasn't improved. I can do 5k before the pain starts.

So, time to speak to a professional I think.

Do I need a physio or running coach? Can anyone recommend someone I could see in person somewhere in East London? (Outside obvs)

  • Do I need a physio or running coach?

    Physio.

This chap is highly thought of, although I haven't used him personally, I know people who have

  • Beijing is such a hellhole, that wind is awful and sometimes they get sandstorms... Beijing people always tell me that it's better than Shanghai because it doesn't rain, but the downside of that is that when it does rain, it REALLY rains and the roads flood and cars get washed away (in downtown Beijing!). When it's not raining or windy, it's polluted and the whole city is designed to be really pedestrian un-friendly. Next time, come to sunny ol' Shanghai!

  • Anyone got any specific targets for 2021?

    My goals are:

    • run 2021 km
    • PBs in all the things
    • learn to run downhill so I stop getting so stressed out in trail races
    • stop being afraid of races
    • continue to volunteer at my running club
    • more hashing/more haring
