I have a moots I need the downtube replacing on. my options in the UK, I think, are enigma, study and limit. Who would you trust with this job?

I had Ti work done by Limit and it was flawless. He's also replaced tubes etc on damaged frames in the past. Was much cheaper and quicker than what Enigma quoted as well.

thank you. do you have any images?

Personally I'd not bother with Enigma, a friend had repairs done by them and they kept failing... also when I visited their HQ they seemed a little impolite so it put me off them.
does Vernon Baker still do ti jobs?
Would you consider sending it all the way back to Moots?
it all sounds like too much hassle... sell it to me cheap

ha! I love this frame and have done for years so I'd like to keep it.
Yeah, I've just emailed moots but it's cost dependant of course. I guess if it's not too much and I could get a refinish then I might be able to justify that.

Nice ti frame there sir . Something missing around the bb area ?? Is that a hardtail or soft tail ? 27.5 or 29 ??

The CX you posted a few days ago? Shame it’s the DT - if it was the seat tube it could have been fun to cut it out and replace with carbon... silly idea... ignore me...

I wouldn't advise Vernon Barker; they're cheap but I went in person to see an example of their Ti work and it's a little... agricultural.
@mattyc Failed repairs could be a symptom of terminal flaws in the original construction rather than the quality of repair work itself.

true, the repair work was on one of their a british built Esprits so...

Who would you trust with this job?
A Trek Crockett

TJD is one of the best Ti welders in the country, and takes on repair work still I think,
Doubt Tom Sturdy would be up for carrying out repairs on a 3rd party frame.
It will just break again eventually anyway though, so I’d just suck it up and bin it personally.

I'd agree with @ectoplasmosis on Vernon Barker, he's cheap and does a good job, but his finishing is definitely at the agricultural end of the scale. I've heard similar feedback to @mattyc on Enigma too.
-
• #1566
No, thankfully it’s the road version of that.
Ok, I think I’ll head to limit if moots don’t come in reasonable. I knew pat a bit as a kid too so a decent reason

Interested to hear what the issue is? It's a shame you're not the original owner as they have a lifetime warranty IIRC.

A crack around about half of the downturn from the headtube weld. Yes, was tempted to lie but felt that with 2 frames I’d bought 2nd hand and loved both it would be a bit inappropriate

similar feedback
All ride with dibs.cc?

A great shame. I’m sure you won’t but if you need any help with shipping etc let me know.

Here's one we made earlier. I say we, I helped put some of it together and was a very minor help with some anodising.

Is this frame a good deal at £900 ono? I’m after a 58 square titanium frame for a while now and ebay seems mostly to throw up 56 or smaller
