Am I right in thinking that’s more or less how beer would have tasted hundreds of years ago when smoking was the only way to dry stuff out in wet climates?
I couldn't tell you the answer but I've had plenty of other smoked beers (especially porters) which I really like but there's a certain meaty/cheese quality to the smoked German beers which I can't get on with.
I’ve only tried proper smoked beer once - it was definitely one of those your glad you’ve tried but aren’t necessarily in a hurry to try again. Am I right in thinking that’s more or less how beer would have tasted hundreds of years ago when smoking was the only way to dry stuff out in wet climates?
