If the flue damper is closed, I open it fully and wait a few seconds to allow the fire box fumes to go up the flue. Then gently crack open the door .
Load up and gently close the doors.

Yeah they’re fucking awful things but people get really defensive when you try and tell them otherwise. People don’t like being denied their pleasures (SUVs, smoking indoors, flights etc)
