Go to B&Q and buy 5-10 pairs of their various cheap work glove. Your hands will thank you, plus they're useful for carrying furniture etc.

For putting the boxes together, I am far too lazy to have put on gloves just for that. If I was spending days or even hours only making boxes, then maybe. But for something sporadic, I am stubborn enough to not stop what I'm doing, put on gloves, make the box then take the gloves off again.
