  • You can ask them nicely but you cannot tell them to take it down.

Suspect that even if it was contract voiding to not do what you ask a ‘technical issue’ would mean it would still be on the portals.

  • Help! Removal company recommendations please - I'll need to book something for mid-Janaury to move the contents of our one bed flat to our new place in Lincoln. We have a few bikes and some furniture so I reckon it's a Luton van size operation.

Has anyone got any personal recommendations for who to use or who to avoid?

  • edit....

Hmmm - apparently the ones i recommended have had loads of quality issues recently and may be going out of business / have gone out of business. Best to avoid.

  • I used these https://www.storkremovals.co.uk/ Found them very good.

  • Don't go with Removers and Storers whatever you do.

  • Anyone have any experience with marble subway tiles in a bathroom? Had ours done last year with large white rectified tiles & the tiler made a cant of the installation - getting it fixed in the near future & thinking of changing it a bit, pale marble on the floor already which is fine so has to work with that - any of you snazzy bathroom owning people any pointers?

  • Thanks for the recos/avoidance warnings for movers!

  • I paid for Rocket Van for my sister in law and are using them for our move this Wednesday as they were apparently great for them. 4 movers and 2 Lutons for about 6 hours is coming to about £1100 with a 10% discount (they gave me the same discount last time so might just be a gimmick). The just charge hourly depending on how many people/vehicles. In-laws used 3 movers and 1 van and it was about £100/hour.

If you email them with the details of your move and a rough idea of what needs moving, they will give you a quote.

If you remind me after Wednesday, I'll let you know how they were for us. They can even supply packing materials ahead of time and you only pay for what you use, they take away the rest. We opted for boxes off eBay and (now 2) runs to Ikea to get more boxes as we waaaaay underestimated.

  • This is super helpful, thanks. We have a self-storage place 5 mins walk around the corner so I think I'll just go get boxes from them as I can keep going back for more..

  • Can add another voice to rocket van. I think the price you paid @stevo_com was similar to my price for a similar move 6 years ago....

  • Pls take our packing shiz.

We used Central Moves. They were good. So good we used them twice....on the same move. Sigh.

  • Baths... inset, looking at a couple of Bette models as recommended by @Prole. (of course the one I like is double the price of the others).

Where is the forum approved placement of the plug whole? I want a dual bath for two (or more) with a shower over it. Should the plug be in the centre or at the shower end? I'm wondering if draining is better if at the shower end or if its too marginal to notice?

  • We just switched from shower end to middle - no difference whatsoever, but also replumbed the waste so could have compensated...

  • This is what I cam here for... awesome, thanks for sharing, I want sure.
Sounds like you have the same set up as I am aiming for? Not having overflow/plug at the ends will make double baths way more comfy.

  • Id fit it at the shower end personally, although last dual bath i fitted had the waste in the centre.

  • OH GOD, conflicting reports... did you have issues with drainage?

  • it depends where your pipe is running for the waste underneath. If your fitting something like above which was similar to the last dual bath the waste was in the centre of the bath under the taps which looks right. I think if the waste was at either end and the taps are in the centre it'll look stupid and would annoy me if it was my own house.

  • The drive to yours and back is the kicker here. Not fun.

  • We used IQ Removals to get us up to Chester, did a WhatsApp video call in advance make sure the van was big enough. 2 lads who packed everything, broke down the flat pack and put back together again. The missus tells me it was £850

  • Downstairs neighbour runs Big Red Removals (SW11 based) and his workers (who are often around the place here doing odd jobs for him) are all sound blokes.

(No experience of using them for removals myself though.)

  • You’d also need a van given how much of it we have. That said, if you buy the boxes and packing stuffs it all adds up. Ask me how I know!

  • Has anyone else had problems with Nest today?

Obviously when Google had their big issues ours was fucked, but it's not been back on since and it's cold.

My wife has been trying to get in touch with their help centre without any luck.

Has anyone managed to solve a similar issue themselves?

  • Hit the advance buttons on your boiler’s controller.

(Obvs doesn’t help the Nest situation but should give you heat)

    Nooooo....

What happened to that nice walk in shower? What are you going to do with all the space anyway?

Showers over baths are all kinds of wrong!
