The only real solution is consumption reduction I guess.
True that.
Don't really agree about the longevity of synthetic stuff though, I've been through maybe half a dozen synthetic (gore, et cetera) jackets and they all leaked. When brought to the attention of the retailer or maker, if there was a guarantee they simply replaced them. End of life issues with plastics concern me.

Yeah that's super frustrating. Not sure what normal warranties are these days but my Gore jacket started leaking after about 4 years (it was never perfect to start with). It'd had a good run so for the last 5 years i've been using it for gardening or lying under the car. I'm having a jacket sale atm and realised i didn't have a shell for riding so i dug out the Gore for a wet commute and it was fine tbh. I'll still be looking for a new shell but the Gore will remain with me as leaking issues aside it's bulletproof. And this is from a die hard minimalist who hates having too much stuff.
Maybe things have changed in the last 3yrs, but the last time I spoke to someone with in depth knowledge of the cotton supply chain, they said you're looking at something like 60% traceability. So as a start I'd be dubious about anyone's claims.
Regardless, cotton uses a fuck tonne of water, organic or not.
The only real solution is consumption reduction I guess.
