• Good lord. Have you seen the Accords, Camrys, Maximas and othe 4 door sedans they sell in the US? The design bar is not set high.

  • A good point. Is nothing planned to be designed for the European market? Or is their formless design part of the branding as some sort of anti-styling?

  • No need to design anything for the European market or any market other than the US as far as Tesla are concerned.

The moment they go into market specific variants they lose the engineering/manufacturing efficiency their stock price thrives on. They are like early Ford with only a small number of models. Once they start to circle the blackhole of the seemingly endless variants offered by the likes of Mercedes, they are stuffed.

  • Design is function on an electric car. Drag coefficient is more important than having a few shit vents or some gaping grill.

It’s part of the reason legacy manufacturers are struggling to catch up. Even with similar kw battery packs, their drivetrain efficiency, battery density (and overall weight) and drag coefficients are nowhere near Tesla. This is because they’re still stuck designing ICE cars.

We have a Renault Zoe as well and with a much smaller motor and two wheel drive, it’s about 25% less efficient per kw/h.

I’ll take range and efficiency any day.
