  • meant to post my recent somec elite SX build here. columbus SLX frame, with 10sp apex group. feels so whippy compared to the very-planted arkose I have been riding for the past year

  • Preferably a quill :)

It's a threadless fork, so it gets a pass.

  • Totally Krossed Out!

  • Cross-chaining and releasing PM2.5?

    Cancelled

  • Tried a Thomson X4 and it didn't look right. Definitely need a sleeker model.

  • next try. frame changed to something shorter and gone are the Shimano STI and double chainrings.

  • Great frame and colors!

  • I think it's the 1st frame like mine I see out in the wild! SLX with that lovely fork. Mine is blue.

  • If I have to, which is the best quill > ahead adapter? It’ll be slammed so need a straight transition.

  • If I have to

You really don't have to. They are pointless.

  • Point me in the direction of a beautiful, reasonably priced quill stem with a removable face plate. Everything apart from that super rare Mavic one look like dog poo.

  • Forget about nice removable face plated quill stems. There's no such thing. Take a quill stem(and it will look good) or take an ahead with a removable face plate (and it will be easy to use).

  • Point me in the direction of a beautiful, reasonably priced quill stem with a removable face plate.

Yet you're somehow contemplating getting a quill adapter?

Anyway, Nitto make some (obviously). And if you're not adverse to a positive rise stem, I can recommend the one from Velo Orange.

  • From what I understand they look the same as standard ahead once installed. I’m not going for a massive stack or anything.

Perhaps this is the wrong audience for such heresy.

  • Disagreed the 3T Motus and Evol stems are plenty clean.

    Also @dbr

  • Perhaps this is the wrong audience for such heresy.

I mean I like the look of quill stems personally and have accepted the somewhat more limited bar choice (although compacts are available, which is what most people probably use). I just find it interesting when people choose an old frame and then disregard a large part of its charm.

  • 3T Motus

    That is quite nice.

  • Just trying to avoid wrestling a pair or Nitto 109s through a quill. I was happy to leave the tech behind a few years ago.

  • See my bike on the previous page with the 3ttt Evol 2002, it has a clamshell opening design that is hidden by the front plate so it looks super clean. There are a few similar designs from the 90s 3ttt range.

  • +1

    That Motus looks good.

  • Perhaps this is the wrong audience for such heresy.

I'm not a quill fetishist, but I have had no issues fitting compact M106s on a Pearl stem, using a coin and nut and bolt.

  • That's good to know. Might get a 3T Record and give it a go.

  • Excuse the spam but I’m trying to sell my Belgiums in classifieds. If anyone needs a pair of MGOF-tested wheels on Italian PMP hubs (Shimano 11s), take a look.
