He told me he was gonna do that, and not mention it to you. Apparently he found a few in a box, he's gonna put em on frames til he's out, then that's it, no more hearts.
-
• #453
Did you put your name on one?
-
• #454
A heart? Hopefully yes. The star will be at the top of the seattube, the heart on the headtube, between the toptube and downtube, to act as protection from my frame pump, but I may just use frame protection tape, and have the star and heart visible, would be a shame to hide them with a £25 pump. Plenty of time to mull it over though.
Seeing your frame also helped me in my colour choice, it's gonna be metallic gunmetal, but quite a bit darker than yours. -

That is very pretty! The new decals really work with that colour and I love the orange star on the front!
My frame has a heart on it as well (in the same place on the back of the seat tube)... I love that he didn't tell you he was going to do that!

By the way we looked for your frame with Mario and sadly couldn't find it... Mario thought Winston had taken it away.

Super nice

Winston's still working on it... final polishing of the stainless bits etc. I think a lot of new repair jobs came in because of lockdown so mine's just sitting in the corner.
Which is just as well as I'm still dithering about paint!

I must say that it's a great colour combination, that clear gunmetal brighten all the nice details of the frame. Can't wait to see it finished !

Welcome to the slowest project ever... Winston only finished that stem over two years ago...
So, since last week I've finally installed the CK cups, having cleaned and re greased the bearings (thanks @reeen for the guidance) and made some kind of adapter to my headset press... At that rate I'm not even guaranteed to ride that bike until spring!

Gunmetal paint looks lovely in that light, probably even better in the flesh.

Didn't know such a thing existed... wouldn't have dared.

Argh! I have so little time and that f******g CK headset keeps messing with me. The top ring just doesn't fit the steerer... Was I sold crap? (Two month later I don't have much of a leg to stand on against tree eBay seller if it's the case...)
If I remove the rubber inner o ring it fits, but with the ring I'd have to hammer it all the way down, and it's a long steerer!
What am I doing wrong (again)?

Could it be because it's an old headset, the rubber's gone hard and I need a new one, costing as little as £50 from CK?
/\ /\ that was kind of the reason...
O ring in boiling water to soften the rubber and washing up liquid made it all work.Meh

New o rings are £2 at Winstanleys. Glad you've got it sorted, and using washing up liquid means you'll have a lovely clean steerer tube.

they are notoriously tight, grease and elbow grease :)

Thanks for the tip. I don't think I damaged it, but at that price I'll buy a couple just in case!

^ this very much the case. Freaked me out when it was first that tight... Going to look so good with the custom stem

My grand father used to say: "le jeu c'est l'âme de la mécanique" which means (approximately) that play is the soul of the machine. CK clearly lack that kind of wisdom!
At least it's a good looking headset!
