  • There are a few vaccine trackers around,. The one at https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html has 6 in 'early or limited approval' as China, Russia and UAE have approved vaccines without waiting for phase 3 trials to complete. So possible if your wife's friend is in China/Russia/UAE?

  • Just had the results of another ONS swab test and it’s clear, can I enter this test result into the track and trace app? Of course not.

  • Nah, UK - just messaged her for more info as i'm curious now

  • Why would you enter a negative result in the track and trace app? I suspect you're only provided the code if you've tested positive.

  • I have to in order for the app to says I can go to work after I got ill.

  • Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't aware James had the virus.

  • You don’t need to have it; only if you have symptom and need to self isolate.

  • So if you have one of the main symptoms you have to isolate until you tell the app you've had a test that says you're clear? Not just the normal waiting period? Or is this to get out of isolation before the period is complete?

  • Apps said to either self isolated or get tested to find out if it’s a negative.

(I put down continuous cough and the app immediately said to self isolated).

  • But dj was talking about an ONS test and not a test ordered through the T&T app (which should end up giving a code that can be entered).

The main purpose of the ONS tests/study is not to provide individuals with test results, it's to help determine population wide prevalence.

I don't think you can enter negative results in the T&T app anyway. Following the T&T app isn't a legal requirement (but it's a sensible thing to do), you only have to follow what T&T say on the phone (no idea what provision they have for the deaf).

  • ^^ Makes sense. Seems actually useful, tbf.

  • interesting but he doesn't really provide much reasoning behind why he thinks industrial scale testing is failing other than a vague 'contamination' not sure how that would happen? Just sounds like soundbites for conspiracy theorists.

I do agree that excess deaths havn't really risen much (although they have by about 700 per week) and mortality seems to be much lower vs cases, better treatment seems more plausible than false positives on the scale he's talking about?

Read the chap's twtiter timeline and you'll get a clearer feel for his views. https://twitter.com/MichaelYeadon3

  • For example, about PCR tests:

See how you’ve been lied to. Happy? If not, find a way to signal your disapproval.

A medical diagnostic test so badly characterised that it should immediately be withdrawn.

Campaign for that, immediate withdrawal, and you’ll get your freedom back Inside 3 weeks.

He's a virus problem goes away if you stop testing for it proponent.

  • Maybe they should recount the tests?

  • One of Yeadon's favourite claims is that there is no serious pressure on critical care beds, using this chart from the Spectator.

In drawing his conclusions he ignores:

    • The fact that critical care capacity has been increased in 2020.
    • The fact that bed occupation varies hugely on a local level.

He also goes on to say that SAGE know this and are deliberately covering it up to support a government agenda to keep people scared. (happy to admit that I'm conflating two or three statements he has made into one there)

tldr; the man is a plum who has been given a platform to express his questionable views by none other than Julia Hartley Brewer.

Who is a truly execrable human being. Anything associated with or approved by her is by definition evil.

  • I don’t think there’s been a noticeable drop in daily cases yet, which is a bit depressing. 21k yesterday, which still looks like it’s well within the +/- noise.

22 days ago after going on the Novavax vaccine trial and getting a positive result back in 48hrs, went for the 2nd yesterday and had another test swab taken. This has come back in 30hrs as a negative. They give you a code to enter in the App, adding this, on the surface, just seems to reiterate the negative result to you

  • So, after pretty much no restrictions and largely normality in every day life, South Australia has just announced a 6 day total lock down. No outside exercise, nothing. Just one daily trip to the supermarket. They're trying to totally stem the second wave really early. It's gonna be a hard 6 days :(

  • What a sensible approach.

  • Rumour mill says that on top of the mostly-useless curfew and the half-useful "recommendation" of closing offices, the government will close restaurants and bars for a couple of weeks starting this weekend.

  • This is what really made a difference here in Amsterdam. We were on 10,000+ new cases a day at the start of November, now down to sub 5000.

  • Our R-rate is below 1 so it seems the Luxembourg government has some sort of info that we're not being given if they're planning for more measures.
