Update on "hats is cold"... I bought a merino baselayer and some armwarmers... and it's been 25 degrees during the day since! Today it was noticeably colder so I took the armwarmers out of the packaging, to discover one single armwarmer. Why would anyone want just one? I didn't check when I ordered to see if they came as a pair as I just assumed - like I do with socks, gloves, etc - that there would be two. FFS.
On the plus side, I did the timekeeping for a half marathon at the weekend and I got paid in hats. Hats for hats! Some justice in the world at last.

weird - maybe they were arm sleeves like basketball players wear?

On the subject of off-road routes, I finally linked up two of my favourite bits into the same run yesterday, the Green Chain Walk and the Thames Path. I rather ignorantly assumed the short section between the two would be a little ugly, but it turns out the 2-mile stretch between Lesnes Abbey and Thamesmead is actually quite nice, nearly all footpaths through green areas, with some water features thrown in. Who knew?!

Why is it so difficult to tell yourself to stay at home when you feel shitty. Instead of go running.

No idea but it sure felt good to be back out today after two weeks off. First time in my life I have craved running.

Knocked out 20km in Epping forest at the weekend and my route was horrible, lots of agricultural sludge and an angry farmer with a shovel.
Does anyone have a nice 20-25km trail route around Epping or anywhere E/SE?

Someone just sent me a few nice looking routes today - will pass them on (if that’s ok with you @doubleodavey?)
-
• #23909
tadahh! I'm afraid to say that the Epping forest ones will all include sludge
Box Hill less so, but plenty of wet slippery chalky surfaces to make up for it. There is still mud, but not Epping forest amounts

Thanks! Looking forward to being able to try those routes!
I remember my first run in Epping. It was also my first 30k+ run. 2 kilometres in I got lost and off the planed trail and ran through what can only be described as a small lake covered by dead leaves... Like knee deep and 10 meter long...
I had to do the rest of the run with soaking wet and water heavy shoes...
Fun times! :-) -

My mojo is back.. back to semi-regular 10km runs and not absolutely hating it. Plus just got an unexpected PR for my local 5km loop.
I’m definitely tempting fate injury-wise posting this but feeling good at the moment.

I love the feeling when you have some training under your belt and the 10km runs become (mostly) fun again.

I'm still tempted by Day Release as a long day walk for the 15mile boundary. Got a 16.5 mile route which is efficient enough at 33 for 30 total.
My metatarsalgia insoles are helping relieve the mortons neuroma symptoms, done a long allotment stint in workboots pain free which was huge. I reckon do it then back to full rest pending post covid life.
At £2.50 it's nowt lost if I dns or dnf, and I need to do something as I'm rotting away physically & mentally here.

I bought these on eBay recently - they're in very good condition but they're too small.
They're a 43 but I'd suggest they fit like a 42.
Would anyone like them for what I bought them for before I sling them back on eBay?
£46

Anybody here got small feet?
Jana bought a pair of Asics Gel Kayano 27 in size 38 (UK 4.5) ran less than 40 miles in them and realised they are a touch too small.
Any takers for £40 posted?

I just finished my Day Release. Did not go as planned but there are a few obvious reasons (toothache earlier in the week disrupting sleep, anti biotics for aforementioned tooth messing with my gut, FiL taken into hospital on Friday) as well as bag too heavy as I hadn't really thought through starting on a Sunday meaning everywhere closes earlier so had 3.5kg of drink, plus food and clothes etc.
I had a low point after about 20 miles, which lasted for about 15 miles. Unusual for me to suffer like that so early on. That cost me time I couldn't recover so turned back at about 45 miles (aiming for 51) which had take me about 10 hours and I was fading again so wanted to make sure I could get home. From there it was a bit of a death march home. Walked a lot. Couldn't eat anything all night. Feel pretty dead now and still not feeling like eating much. Hopefully sleep will help.

Sounds like type 2 fun but you got through it, well done. Was the 51 plan to get you the 45 atcf award?
-
• #23918
Yeah that was the plan. I'd already plotted a route from Meriden past my house which was pretty efficient so just ran that way toward Meriden. Ended up turning back in a random field when I couldn't find where the footpath left it!

I was running 5 miles on Monday, 3 on Wednesday and 1 on Friday. Monday was always a struggle so just doing 3 x 3 miles per week currently. Much easier

these grey, damp days are getting tough to slug out some miles. Hope everyone's running is going well.

• #23921
I'm enjoying the grey, damp days. Best time for trail running. My shoes aren't thanking me though...
I've also really got into head torch trail running to. Some of the noises you hear in the woods though....
-
• #23922
Yeah I got into some evening running last year and enjoyed it, maybe time to do some again. Glad you are enjoying this weather!
-
• #23923
What is day release? I’ve read it a few time’s in here and still can’t figure it out.
-
• #23924
That sounds grim! Make sure you recover sensibly!

Googling: "day release" run
gives:-

(Makes more sense if you know about 'Escape from Meriden'.)
I'd be interested in those routes. One gotta love a mud bath... Do you have gpx or something please?
