  • Not much interest in next-gen consoles yet, but was jealous of people getting new things and had to treat myself.

That's an itch I've had for about five years. Feels very good to scratch it.

  • Its unlocked now if you managed to download it in time.

I have to say I'm quite enjoying it, feels more 'arcadey' and that's not a bad thing at all.

  • Should have taken today to WfH I guess. I played a decent amount of the MP during the beta test and enjoyed it. Incredibly fast paced though and most weapons seem to be incredibly quick time to kill.

  • I kinda want one now - the hype train has caught up with me. what's my best option? wait for those retailers who are restocking on release day?

    I want both...

  • Elite Controller

I love mine.. Such a great controller. Solid.

  • Downloaded AOE II Definitive Edition now that it's on Game Pass. Man! I forgot how much fun this game was. Takes me right back to my childhood and it looks fantastic in 1440p.

  • ROBIN HOOD
    ROCK ON
    LUMBERJACK

  • The only way I’d play AOE2

  • lol, I was discussing with @spotter how it's actually a difficult game without using cheats. There was genuine consequence when my soldiers died.

  • Think I'm gonna download this eve.

  • Having not held a console controller since PS1 days can someone talk me through what Nintendo Switch I want?
I get the need for the improved battery one - is that the 1.1?? - although most gaming will be family oriented with young kids (maybe Mrs Pasty and I might have a Mario Kart session of an evening) but what do I want in terms f online provision, some games are hard copies others (sometimes dearer) online codes then there's various 3 month etc online packages - arrrgh please help

  • Never had the original Switch but the improved version definitely has decent battery life for gaming in bed. If the kids may want to swap games with friends when that's eventually possible or you want to be able to resell them and make money back get at least the first party games in physical form because they have really been holding their resale value. I've gone digital only but I get that makes it harder to say no to kids asking for games if they know you can just download them in minutes, although I'd still say to get a micro SD card of a decent capacity because just having all the games right there feels easier than having a pile of carts and I feel like by waiting for eShop sales and using loyalty points you generally save money over physical.
Re: the online packages, if anyone is going to want to play Splatoon or Smash etc. or visit other islands in Animal Crossing it's essential I think, though not particularly well implemented apparently. One bonus it gets you is you can buy vouchers for game downloads that save you money on the bigger games that never go on sale in the eShop, so you pay about £80 and can download 2 games that would've cost you £100 buying individually. You also get access to the NES and SNES games they've put up. I think there is a month's free trial available when you set up the Switch, but it's ages since I did it so maybe I'm wrong.
If you're going to be playing family games you're probably gonna need at least one controller and a spare set of Joy-Cons. The Pro Controller is not essential although it is extremely comfortable and the HD rumble is a nice quality of life thing for some games (there are some moons in Mario Odyssey that require it for example) but Hori and 8bitdo are fine for controllers if everyone will want one in the end. The grip you attach to the Joy-Cons is super uncomfortable to play with for long periods; even my wife who has small hands doesn't like it, and it's just extra wear on the unfortunately delicate Joy-Con sticks and connections. I'm making the Switch sound like an absolute money sink - and it is - but it's also super fun and convenient! I went from sceptical that I'd made the wrong choice to immediately happy that I didn't get a used PS4, and my wife who was a Nintendo kid but originally thought consoles were not a suitable adult thing has made a U turn on that and loves it.

  • @Soul looking at the LG gx series and my god it's lovely! As someone who generally doesn't watch much TV and therefore has the same TV for years I'm really interested in it.
However would you care to share how you've routed the cables to it? Mine will be wall mounted with a small media cabinet below - for Xbox. Amp will be on the shelf the other side of the room for context.

However I'd rather not be chasing in walls for cables etc.

  • It’s a lovely TV. Would highly recommend. Obviously not worth it if you’re not going to wall mount it (you even have to buy the stand separately).

There’s channels with clips in specifically for the power, HDMI and Ethernet cables built into the back, which makes it possible to flat mount it.

For me, because the cabinet is so high, the Sonos Arc is there too, I just let the cables run to a hole I cut in the top of the cabinet.

Then I’ve got ‘wireless’ surrounds on either side. Obviously they need a plug so not completely wireless.

  • On a scale of one to ten how much do I need two more Sonos speakers to apros pos surround sound?

  • For Atmos, I’d say it adds massively to the overall feeling of being surrounded by sound.

If you rarely watch or play anything that uses atmos, the Arc is good enough to deliver a really wide soundscape.

For me, I watch a lot of UHD blu ray, Netflix and gaming content so 9/10.

  • Is the new Cold War Cod worth buying on the PS4?

  • The quick resume on the Series X is just mad. I can load up Madden in seconds, then after about an hour when I remember I’m crap at it I can load right into Black Flag where I left off in less than 10 seconds, then after about 90 minutes when I’m annoyed I keep dying in a sea battle I’m clearly not ready for I can switch over to Fable 2 and load straight into wherever I was up to, then when I realise I’m playing a 12 year old game on a brand new system I can jump right back into the game of madden I left off about 3 hours earlier and repeat the process for the rest of the day. It’s brilliant

  • From the reviews I've seen: if you like CoD - sure. If you don't - it's CoD.

  • It's not going to be better on anything else. Because it's rubbish.
I played the alpha and beta, not buying the game.
It's a massive step back, if you never had original black ops on PS3 then I image it would be pretty good but if you've played anything since then no.

If you don't have a CoD then buy modern warfare, IMO it's the best 1st person shooter since COD4. Warzone is the best battle royale game out there too.

If you're not too fussed about traditional multiplayer I'd probably just play warzone, it's free and is about to get a new skin to look all 80s.

  • I'm quite enjoying it but I quite like CoD in general (I think I've played all but one of them since the first one in 2003).

  • I've got to say I'm throughly enjoying it. Feels more like black ops style of game play which I enjoy.
Level design has really stepped up a notch also.
The campaign if that's your thing is pretty good too.

  • I've not played a cod for ages, but really enjoying it. It's a great game to play in a group I'm finding.

The zombies mode is also fun, but we can't seem to get past about round 15, prob cos we're rubbish.

  • Spent my xbox time over the weekend completing the Lego DLC for FH4 - bit of a grind towards the end but the QOL improvements in terms of fast travel and loading made the experience so much more enjoyable.

Meant i spend 99% of my time playing the game rather than 50% of it waiting for it to load. Would recommend.

Still got 70 achievements left to 100% it (got 99 of 169). Plenty of life left in it.
