  • Amazing colours on the doggo!

  • Having used Pro 400 a good bit and filmdev theres something massively off on there scans and id speak to them about that they are usually good.

Ive always found that pro 400 comes back quite contrasty like in your scan.

  • I don’t know if the scan on the left is a bad scan. It’s flat. But it probably contains more information than the scan on the right, therefore (despite looking dull right now) it’s a more useful file.

  • Another way to look at it:

Scan 1 can look like scan 2 in processing easily, with detail to spare. Scan 2 has almost no room for improvement in processing. Which is the better scan?

  • Both have a magenta cast tho.

  • Any time I’ve shot Pro 400, it has come back looking weird and I just assumed I didn’t get on with it. Although I’ve never rescanned it myself.

  • Scan 1 is a 2000x3000 jpeg, Scan 2 is a 50mb Tiff that near on doesn't look like it needs editing to me. (both been compressed for here to 2mb for here)

  • I always get Tiffs from Film Dev personal

  • Resolution is neither here nor there. Information is what you need in a scan (as in tonal info, picked up because it’s in the gamut that the scanner can pull-out). Either a scanner has the fucking bright light required for this or it doesn’t.

  • Contax G1 - 28mm + Kodak Ultramax

Very happy with the recent purchase

  • Wowee! Where'd you buy it from?

  • @tinakino thanks

@nefarious it was advertised here 10 days ago.

  • Ah thought I’d remembered one coming up for sale. Can you make me feel better by telling me how much you paid? I’ve always wanted a contax, but need to remember that they’re out my price range!

  • I think it's only going to upset you more as it was nothing like eBay prices!

  • The prices on the G1 but especially on the G2 have gone absolutely bonkers. I bought a G2 in 2017 and I think you'd probably struggle to get a G1 even for the price I paid.

@YeahNerdz if you can, give the 45mm a go, absolutely hands down the sharpest and best 35mm I've ever used. Consistently blown away by it:

  • Kodak prices going up again in Jan apparently, Portra going up by 13 percent

Rises between 10 and 20 percent across the range.

About £67 quid a pack of 400 will go up too, arghhhh.

  • Great images. If I can find a decent priced 45mm I will give it a go. But I've paid less for the G1 body and 28mm than some 45 going for on eBay.

  • that pints of gin pic is brilliant.

  • these are great. What film are they on?

  • Thanks, Portra 400.

@greeno they were pints of water, thankfully.

  • eurgh so good always wanted a contax after seeing Ibraar Hussains photos https://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2012/02/21/the-contax-g2-travel-companion-by-ibraar-hussain/

  • Moving house

  • Anybody interested in some Santa rae 1000 35mm film? Got 4 rolls I won't use. 36exp hand spooled in some DX coded canister but not 1000 iso. Stored in fridge. Requires hand development
