Both of them too niche to do much money, they're just cool toys to raise brand awareness.

They spent about half a milion euro on the project, and only made 7300 of the first batch. They make 4 million bikes a year (half a mil being Rockrider 340s) so they're not making money out of this one, it's more of an image product. Allegedly they aren't making money out of the top of the range Van Rysel either.

I guess the development leads to a lot learning and a quite a few new product ideas.
4 million a year
Massive!

Fair play that is a compelling price point.

Very very tempted by the decathlon riverside - and cant believe that Im saying that about a bike from decathlon. Anything else to consider at that kind of price? looking for 1x, for commuting, light off road - south downs way in a day kind of thing, light touring, etc.

Possibly the new Boardman all terrain one? No experience of Boardman bikes but looks well specced for the price

You'll wear out the knobbly tires and the drivetrain pretty fast commuting on that. Unless you commute trough singletrack

Chris clearly not a regular on the Cannondale thread.

Tyres are easily swapped, but I don't get the drivetrain wear part. Won't you wear out the drivetrain at the same rate as any other bike you commute on?

Same question as ^^^^

Expose to the same elements I guess rather than all drivetrain get the same amount of wear.

the same elements
Epic adventures: sand, mountain spring water, hailstones, sweat & tears
Commute adventures: grit, piss, pepsi, chicken nuggets, snot -

Boardman looks tidy but shortish head tube?

No rack mounts for panniers or fork cages though

You can't really compare that boardman with the decathlon?
Boardman is a normal gravel/adventure plastic bike, decathlon a modern alu tourer. -

With a 32t chainring you'll be pretty much commuting in the first 3 cogs with a bad chainline. Plenty of costumers come with 1x MTB than they use just for commuting, new cassette and chain almost every time.

Boardman is legit IMHO as is decathlon Riverside...

It's close. If you add blood, Monster (other energy drinks are available), coffee you've got my 'healthy diet pyramid' nailed.
