  • It's not that bit, that's a cap to the spikes in volume. The option above that is the one that lowers the entire phone volume, and can't be disabled

  • Again;

  • Valid point

  • They've had the option to do that since forever and never have

Big Sur just came out... and oh look https://twitter.com/lapcatsoftware/status/1326990296412991489

Big Sur will no longer start programs without checking if it's allowed. It turns out that they hadn't yet scaled that up, so it crashed when people stampeded to install Big Sur, and thus no-one could start a non-Apple program. This is the OS release that "is engineered for Apple’s powerful M1 chip".

So the fundamentals of my what I fear are in this OS release.

Advice right now... DO NOT DOWNLOAD BIG SUR TODAY.

I mean, we're all going to get it... but let them scale up the servers that allow you to run software on your own machine first.

  • I literally have one choice due to the hearing aids provide by the NHS; the only equipment I can get that will work perfectly is a Compilot II which is an expensive £200 device just to send music to my hearing aids.

  • Once you figure it out im keen.

  • Anyone installed Big Sur yet?

  • Dibs please, I'll let you know tomorrow.

  • Apple will give me £270 trade-in for my 2016 13" MBP, is that good enough, or ruinous?

Try CEX, apple always rip you off.

  • They seem pretty keen to be an inclusive company though. Maybe once they get reports from people adversely affected by this, like yourself, they will have ways to deal with it. I hope they can help.

  • I had (prior to the above.) Haven't noticed any issues, but also using it for recreation not work.

  • But you have an iPhone.

It’s much more inclusive than Android.

You made it sound almost as if I have choices in regards to equipment to allow me to vaguely hear.

  • Is there an issue with a deaf person owning an iphone? Why shouldn't he have the best he can afford like the rest of us?

  • He is a troll, just ignore him.

  • Yeah I’m reaching that conclusion too.

Yo, @user120363, how’s your Android doing? Is it the best for your circumstances?

  • Are you assuming we can all afford an iPhone because you can?

In the COVID 19 thread you assumed everyone in the UK had internet access because "I've never met anybody in the last 5 years who didn't have access to the internet.".

  • Still a massive assumption to make based purely on anecdotal evidence, no?

  • He could have budgeted in the £200 for the specialized device that would solve the problem.

Well indeed. I also find it disappointing that wheelchair users don't fund their own accessibility infrastructure.

Anyway, must dash, I'm off to tell the missus how she can adjust her behaviour so that she wont get leery comments from people when she's out running.

It's not the best for him and his circumstances though is it?

It's a software fix to enable someone in his circumstances to make use of the hardware he's already purchased. It's not unreasonable to simply accept that Apple should make an accommodation for such a situation, rather than telling him to buy another piece of hardware to mitigate a problem that didn't exist until the most recent OS update...

  • Roll back the update?

    Fucks sake. Really?

    Let's manufacture another example

If Apple updated face ID and fucked the algorithm up so that it failed to distinguish correctly between black faces...
We'll assume it's an innocent error, entirely down to the algorithm, or the light sensors. No ill intentions inferred.
It's not like similar stuff hasn't happened before - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8429634.stm

    Do you
    a) ask black friends to carry around a lamp to better illuminate their faces so that the structure can be more easily identified by the phone.

    b) ask black friends to roll back the update

    c) ask Apple to fix it.

  • You really are a total wanker aren’t you?

  • I think black people should budget for lamps from now on. Totally reasonable.

  • Hi - we get sent little reports from pre-school with x did this and they always include pics - I've asked the pre-school and they've confirmed and resent..

I can't ever seem to get the pics, even using quicklook, saving the doc and using a PDF viewer etc instead usually little question mark boxes come up randomly which I assume could be the pics..

Any way to actually see them>
