When it says 'triple split' that basically means you can split a race up to 12hrs in 2?

I think it means that you can take a split time at 0:55.55 and another it will still show the correct stopwatch time at 1:05:05

And then, when you registered the 0:55.55 you can reset that while the other is still going and split again?
