  • I’m happy with sticking to 2x

This is also what I am doing. I see no reason to reduce range, add cross chaining, shelve perfectly functional parts, etc.

Wolftooth ultegra ring cheapest online £0

What for? Just run normal Compact crankset. If you need a new chainring on a budget, hot tip, don't buy Wolftooth.

Deore wide range cassette cheapest online £45 (Wiggle)

    Hanger adapter cheapest online £8

    chain cheapest online £20

    £73

  • Yeah I know it can be cheap but where’s the sense in putting budget parts when everything else is so high end?

I’ll update a pic when the transfer is complete and Rose in current guise shown here. (You can see the DT Swiss / syncros carbon 650b with the venture tyres on side of pic)

  • Not really loving my new 40x 11-40 setup at the moment. I find the cassette jumps particularly annoying

Really? As the "oops I'm in biggie-big again" guy I love how I don't have to think about the chainline any more. I have the same 40/11-40T setup and while the jumps can be big, turns out I don't care much about that. I don't ride as hard as you, maybe that's a thing.

  • Yeah, the jumps mid cassette are uncomfortable at times, mostly in the faster/high cadence sections where I prefer to keep the cadence constant and just adjust +1/-1 on the cogs, it doesn't seem feasible with an 11-40 cassette.

  • that's because 40t and 11-40 is too much
11-32 cassettes are plenty enough, 11-36 maximum for steep stuff

  • I'm going for a sub-compact set of rings and an 11-42 for mountain gravel rides next year so I'll get used to it over winter on the local trails and tracks. For normal riding unless it's proper filthy I take the road bike anyway. I think rings and cassette are going to set me back something like 150 euros.

  • 11-32 might be a stretch for the stuff I sometime ride for the winter, it will deinitely go on for next Summer

  • Why does anyone need to charge while riding, the battery’s last 2000miles? They’d last a non stop LeJoG with ease

Forgetting to charge Di2 is the most obvious reason but since you're focused on single big rides, mine lasted 1800km or to Hoosier Pass both times I've raced the Trans Am.

  • Just remeber

Again, do you know who I am?

  • 1x are way overrated

Duh. How long have I been saying this?

  • 11-32 cassettes are plenty enough, 11-36 maximum for steep stuff

    I mean that's just bollocks.

  • What would be the benefit of having a 1x drivetrain anyway? I understand how it's an improvement for mtbs because of the big jumps in gear changes that you'll have to make. But on a gravelbike it's kind of nice to have smaller jumps in gears and you won't have to change gears upfront as often.

  • I mean that's just bollocks

    Single speed for lyf

  • Fixed gravel obvs

  • 11-32 cassettes are plenty enough, 11-36 maximum for steep stuff

    I mean that's just bollocks.

Is it? I've gotten up (miserably) a 25% incline on 42-32 and only spun out approaching 50kmh on 42-11. On the road this is like. People on here always moan about their equipment when a few years ago they'd have been told to HTFU :)

    inb4 shit fixie skidders say

  • Is it that time again

  • Is it that time again

Gearbox and IGH users need not apply

  • Who pays shimano RRP?

    Everyone basically.

  • Hunt x mason wheels with gravel king tyres £250ish

700c or 650b? If the latter then I will take.

  • Was that blissful tarmac in the middle of the summer or ankle deep mud in winter? You know, gravel can be a lot of things these days.

Also, I think @hippy statements are always based on a loaded bike a week deep into an endurance event.

  • Chainless gnarmac, takin it to the gnarmax

  • That'll never catch on.

  • Anyone who claims "gear ratio x" is enough for everyone is wrong. I can climb Everest with both arms behind my back on a 62x11 fixed gear. Big deal. That doesn't work for my Nan, does it?

  • Argument time. When work gets you down and you can't tell them all to fuck off, come on over to LFGSS, where you can. Therapy, LFGSS style.

  • I've shamefully got a 42t cassette on my real gravel bike but it's not really necessary
