• I decide against those bar end junction boxes too because they'd make charging Di2 while riding a pain in the arse.

Got to agree. My tripster has a bar end junction and there's no way I'd ride and charge it as there's too much flappy cable. I did it that way as the price difference was negligible and I wanted something less exposed. Got the under-stem one on my normal road bike though; the increased effort in cabling wasn't worth it for me.

@tilover - Why XT? If price is a major driver, SLX/Deore parts are also available and you'll save 20-30% and add probably 50-60g at most.

  • Why does anyone need to charge while riding, the battery’s last 2000miles? They’d last a non stop LeJoG with ease

As for SLX options, because it’s a titanium and carbon ultegra specced bike as is, seems crazy to downgrade components to entry level just to try a new system. I’m of course not against spending money but on this occasion sticking to the 2x makes the most sense, if I do change eventually it will be to equivalent spec or better 👍🏻

Oh for me there'd never be a point. For some of the people on this forum, 2000 miles isn't enough.

Forgetting to charge Di2 is the most obvious reason but since you're focused on single big rides, mine lasted 1800km or to Hoosier Pass both times I've raced the Trans Am.
