Why are they a nightmare? Depends where the mounting points are but may just have to bend the stays or use some spacers at the mount to clear the caliper.
I’d prob go for guards that are 60/65mm wide for 50mm tyres

Where are you reading that? In my experience modern SKS guards come with spacers which should be enough to get you clearance for discs, but you never know I guess.

forum approved 50mm+ guards for disc brake bike?
I've ordered some 53mm bluemels but now reading they are a nightmare with disc brakes - still have the opportunity to cancel the order for something else.
