  • Of course. I'm an endurance guy.

  • wtf... this is insane!!!

  • wtf... this is insane!!!

ikr? It has taken me several months to build up to being able to do ten!

  • i would be happy with 10 good ones full extended arm and all that! :) home gym now (thx covid) i dont have pull up bar so i am trying to improve the pushup game

  • I expect they'll sell out again over the next few days, but on the off-chance - can anyone recommend a good home gym setup that I can put in my spare room for lockdown so that I can maintain some strength and condition?

  • Weight cage. Weights. Dumbbells. Bench. Foam mat. Ab roller.

  • It depends on what you want to do really. Flat bench vs adjustable. Mats on floor for weights. There is a thing called a power tower which may be useful - I want one but haven’t space for it.

  • I could stick something large (but not overly tall) in the garage.

Would you have a link to what you are referring too? There's loads of power towers, for e.g.

  • Chin-up bar (door or freestanding)
    Several pair sizes of kettlebells
    Ab roller

I think a weight cage and weights will take too much space in a spare room?

  • Plyo boxes, squidgy or wood?

  • Some kettlebells

  • Weight cage? Power tower is for dips and pull ups etc. I get most stuff from Amazon. I will try and get links but I’ve had my stuff a while.

  • Cage - XS Sports Power Rack Weight Lifting Cage- Pull Up Bar Mulity Gym Machine Olympic Cage Press https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LJ5L8WY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DNENFb21T2DPT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Bar - DKN Olympic Chrome Bar - Metallic, 7 ft https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TKTZP4I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kOENFbHAW48QY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Plates - DKN Tri Grip Cast Iron Olympic Weight Plates https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NAAB31C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SOENFbJP1QQMS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    Collars - 2 x Olympic Barbell Lock Jaw... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00F4ZYG5G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

    All seem unavailable now. Apologies.

  • Everything I have bought has stood the test of time and some abuse. It wasn’t the most expensive but realistically what can go wrong. The cage is the only thing which you need to careful with - I had seen one before I purchased.
My bench was bought locally and is rated for. 350 kg I think. So that’s me plus the weights. And I will never get close to the limits on it.

  • Thanks for the examples. Be handy if there was a decent “total garage gym” setup, Googling brings up such a range of stuff it’s hard to know what’s overpriced crap and what’s decent.

  • Research worked for me. Reddit has some examples of home gyms etc. I suspect there are a few here, if you go back through these pages.
You don’t have to pay huge money to get stuff that works. How difficult is it to get a crap weight plate? I have bought some stuff locally and glad I did it to support local business and I get to see it and the the seller knew the kit. Unfortunately, The shop has closed now as the owner was not a businessman but a nice guy and a weight lifter. Sad about that.
If you can find the stuff I posted on Amazon - or similar, I am sure it would be fine.

  • Mira Fit is the best that I’ve found, unfortunately been waiting for it to come back into stock since March....

  • Kettle Bells.
    Resistance Bands
    Pull Up bar
    Ab Roller

Will all do the trick if your not bothered about big compound movements.

  • Cheers. I still can’t work out how to use Reddit, but I imagine other sources of information are available.

  • I’m a learner. I have had a few beers tonight but I will have a look tomorrow and report back. It’s mostly American though and they have plinths for lifting on - plywood areas which you make yourself. I have old carpet and it works for me!

  • I would speak to your PT about it. He/she will have a much greater knowledge than me. It wholly depends on what you want to do and (maybe) what you want to spend.
Matt above has good suggestions of that is what you want to do.
I started on Stronglifts (google it) and never regretted a M minute. I’m currently injured and worried, if I can get back to some level of mobility, back to Stronglifts. I also have the Starting Strength app - very similar and likely better. I would like to give it a go.
Read Mark Rippetoe if you get a chance. He’s a god!!

  • What I have been doing for the past six weeks is three sessions per week with a PT. I’ve got a further 12 weeks in the program, but C19 is going to punch a four week hole in that if (as believed) private gyms are included in the non-essential category. I know there is a degree of pressure to exempt them, but suspect that will come to nothing.

What I’d like therefore is to at least maintain what I have currently so that when (if?) we get out of lockdown in December I can pick up where I left off.

This last week we just started to see real gains (moved from the top rack of dumbbells to the bottom for e.g. and for the big pulls going some way over body weight), which I don’t want to lose.

  • Managed to snag a 20kg kettlebell from decathlon after 6 months of on and off searching. Wanted a 24kg but it’ll have to do.

  • @Well_is_it - it’s the wild west out there!

  • What exercises and kit has your PT been using on you? Why not just buy those?

IE if you've been using a couple dumbbells, why not get those. If he's used some kettlebells, get those too. If it includes a bar and plates, pick some up.

You're not going to need ALL the weight ranges nor all the equipment. Just buy what he's made you do and repeat the exercises. No?
