  • The BBC haven’t got the story yet and it also happens to be the week Kuenssberg is on holiday. Coincidence?

  • She's on the wireless right now banging on about it, so possibly not.

  • Got to get r down before the inevitable Xmas spike I guess.

  • entering another lockdown just as full fat furlough ends. what could go wrong

  • What kind of restrictions will be in place? No socialising, hospitality industry closing, only essential shops open?

  • also all the briefing is about an english lockdown. what about scotland

  • Let’s leave it another week Dom I need to get my Christmas tv times first #wheresboris

  • Who knows? Rather than announcing it in a news conference, with supporting material to share via government websites, etc., this complete shower of arseholes once again leak this to friendly newspapers, late on a Friday night, then disappear for 48 hours. Meanwhile, people go for one last big night out before full lockdown, inadvertently creating super spreading events that compound the situation.

This comes out in an environment where those calling for a full scale national lockdown have been accused of playing politics with a health endemic, whilst the government continually say that a full scale national lockdown isn't needed.

That they do this at the end of half term takes a special kind of incompetence.

  • I was about to write that exact same post, Andy.

    It's staggeringly incompetent.

  • They have got it so wrong again.

  • i am dreading their new 3 word slogan for the new lockdown, i bet there is a save xmas in there somewhere

surely we have to start thinking what boris has to gain by completely fucking up the country ? this level of incompetence is beyond incompetence, is he selling us to the russians or to his hedge fund mates

half term was the obvious time to lock down

  • half term was the obvious time to lock down

Yeah - you'd have thought. Beyond obvious, if you had even the slightest hint that you'd have to do it at all it seems a total no brainer.

I don't know what the 'lead time' is on cases / hospitalisations. Presumably it's at least a few weeks, so they've already locked in the death rate for early December by their actions today. Given where we are now it'll be the highest yet so they're not going to be able to relax any lockdown in the face of it whether to 'save christmas' or not.

  • 2 weeks hospital and 4 weeks death I think.

  • I’m starting to think it is pure public school boy bravado incompetence now and they really don’t understand how it works. The cabinet is absolutely devoid of talent, we have absolutely fucked it again.

  • These Etonian educated bastards are repeating the charge of the light brigade with the entire country.

  • Also this while Wales has said once it's circuit breaker ends, which they don't feel the need to extend, that they will not reintroduce any local restrictions but instead some new national rules , from outside at least, it appears much better governed on this issue

  • Etonian educated bastards

There must be a couple of teaching jobs at Eton (history? economics? Not science) That rank as some of the most influential in the country of recent decades. I wonder if they are happy about that, or acknowledge the damage they've done.

  • aren't they also saying this surge is worse than their worst case scenarios had predicted

  • How do you become and Eton teacher? I’m guessing they hire from alumni? If so they probably don’t even acknowledge any responsibility.

  • Not saying the Cabinet aren't all incompetent arseholes (they are!) but other non-isolated countries that aren't run by Etonians are also getting fucked over (Spain, Italy, Germany, France, etc) and heading for extreme lockdowns too as the second wave comes.

    Lessons from Northern Ireland.

T&T not yet good enough, reopening too fast.

Aside from a temp lockdown & improvements on T&T, different types of reopening, trying new ideas, not sure what you can do, it worked well here. Our cases really dropped, though schools reopen again next week so we have to see.

From here it looks like Westminster is waiting too long, again, like March :(

  • Eton teacher

    Beak, pls.

  • From here it looks like Westminster is waiting too long, again, like March :(

Exactly like March, wait till Monday as if the virus take a break in the weekend.

It need to be done last week, yesterday, today, not wait in an orderly fashion like the 11th of November all over again (Remembrance Day).

  • No guidance.
    No clarity.
    No enforcement.
Pretty much no one caring about following "the rules" because no one else is.
I have no idea what we do better, Germany was the model but now isnt.

I'd really like to know what China have done, apart from telling us it's all gone now.
