  • Yeah that is weird. Maybe you just need to get used to them. I keep my protocol the same every time - including the same 20 minute warmup I do before every race.

  • Yeah I'm sure I could get better at them, and in effect I'm keeping the same protocol in using the 'in-race' efforts, I think if I was doing a big VO2 block of training might make sense to better reflect the ramp results but at the mo the sweetspot levels feel sustainable.

  • Anyone used/using their Outdoor workouts? Thinking of giving them a go. Presume you need a long bit of clear road or is there some kind of stop/start for climbs/descents?

  • Feels like needs a lack of traffic/junctions my normal riding includes

  • I'm not using the turbo at the moment so I thought I'd give it a go. If I can get a few miles of straight road, maybe do laps, it might work?

  • I have found their outdoor rides were useful for me as I was using a TR plan over lockdown, wanted to stick to it, but also wanted to be outdoors as soon as possible when we were allowed.

I ended up doing far longer between intervals than they suggested to allow me to get to a bit of road where I knew I could safely put down some watts for the allotted time.

Obviously, that's kind of OK for SS/base riding, but anything suprathreshold (bar the <1min stuff) was simply not feasible.

  • Yeah, I can't imagine I'll be doing anything like VO2s outside and if I did try them I might essentially do hill repeats unless I could find a closed road like Hillingdon. Most of my stuff is SS-Threshold anyway

  • The advice is always ‘find a 5km climb around 5%’ so not great for le UK.

  • I guess that's fine if they accept my warmup is 200k over to Wales.

  • You are a fucking weirdo. During summer you turbo and winter you ride outdoors.

  • I was only doing the turbo because I was trying to be a good boy with all the lockdown stuff. I guess having done that I'm now sick of the turbo but would like some kind of structure but there's no point getting too serious because I have no races on. So, yeah, this year and next are bit of a mess. Covidised training.

  • He’s channeling his inner cross rider.

  • Either way, previous comment stet

    You are a fucking weirdo.

  • Tyres aren't wide enough. I am considering doing some mtbing but we'll see.

  • He’s channeling his inner cross rider

    Has he eaten another one?

  • Well, there's not much meat on them so you can't stop at one.

  • Have you met @Ramsaye ?

  • I don't think so.

    Also...

  • I’m not fat, I’m insulated correctly for cold weather cycling.
And before Andy pipes up, no I’m not wearing a life jacket under that jersey.

  • I know cross racing is often wet and mucky but that's a bit extreme, no?

  • Just be pleased he spared us a photo of him in that Rollapaluza skinsuit.

  • I think I’ve raced on courses with puddles deeper than that and cross races don’t feature jellyfish the size of a bin lid.

I think what @andyp was suggesting is that while the people at the business end of the cross race make him look really fat, at the party end of the grid we are a little better suited to bankrupting the holder of an all you can eat buffet.

  • In liz Hurley mode? Ask @chalfie as he still has the mental image burned into his retinas.

  • He’s not alone.
