That's an unfortunately failure mechanism. Try a dab of grease in the female spade next time. it makes it a lot easier to get them on and off. I also try to take them off by pushing from the bottom rather than pulling from the top.
You could consider the coaxial adaptor too if you're taking the wheel in and out a lot.
