How many chains on one? If I do a chain a month, how much does the reel cost and how long would it last?

• #13553
That's what my mum said.^^

She still owes me a drink.

Fuck knows, that's 50 metres, I'm sure there's maths available. That's from chicken, I'd say you'd need a trade account to get it but they seem happy enough to sell most of the other stuff they distribute through eBay for the same or less than their b2b.

118 x 0.5"
118x1.25cmI'm drnk but my bad maths reckons 34 chains. So if you apply that over my ultra bikes, the commuter shit and my partner's bikes I reckon I could get through a reel in 18 months / 2 years and you only have one postage hit. But you don't get a quicklink per chain. Depends how much the reel costs as to value for money.

Going by US industry prices.
KMC bulk 11 speed spool is 500 ft and just over $2k.
The same chains are $450ish for 25 chains at 116 links (58 inches). So 120.8 feet
So it’s cheaper to buy it by the box at $3.73 vs $4.10 a foot.

Finally an interesting drivetrain debate.

I've seen a few on ebay that are around 1500/2000 which is out of my budget really. I think my transition rapture needs a carbon fork and a f/wheel then it'll be poppin
Makes me realise me selling my rlt9 with sram rival 1 hydro for 750 was a bit cheap.

So, I shouldn't buy £2000 worth of chain at once, is that what you're trying to tell me? :D
-
• #13561
So it is cheaper to produce individual chain packaging and extra links waste for a total of 103.5 times vs 1 spool.
No surprise the world is rotting #gretacries

Nope, it’s still bulk chain. It’s 25 chains pre cut in a long box. Kinda looks like a spaghetti box. Basically you cut off one of the ends of the box and pull out a chain as you need, no extra packaging.

They'd be neat. If they were 117 long. Can plebs buy boxes or just shops?

Those are 114 long 8 speed.

25x box of kmc 11 speed silver/black 118l is £335 +VAT, £600 on eBay. You'll have to see if you can chat up an LBS with a chicken account for a price in between, maybe some shout outs when you're out gooch wreaking will convince them.

A 50m real of kmc X11
It’s weird, we only have the option 150m here in the states.

More gravel needs more chains.

Arkose D3 people ...
Does it have routing for dynamo cables? Evans lists that it does ... but the sales staff say no.
It has a little rubber grommet on the headtube I think? For a cable?

maybe some shout outs when you're out gooch wreaking
Can we get some metrics on gooch damage vs. chain sales? I think the market is stagnating right now but should open up with some new interest Q1 2021.

The all carbon fork has a drilled crown for guards and/or lights alongside internal routing for the brake hose and dynamo wiring (if you fit one)
https://advntr.cc/review-pinnacle-arkose-d3/
Guess you're after tail light routing info?
Grommet at the back of the top tube too. So looks like it might be possible.
"internal F+R dynamo light routing" is mentioned everywhere so it's probably from their marketing copy which would make me think that it does have it and whoever you spoke to needs some training.

So, I settled on a Rondo Ruut AL 2 and by time I got my shit together i missed window for my cycle scheme voucher. Now I cannot get a Rondo Ruut AL 2 as all UK stock sold out until Feb March 2021. (First world problems).
Any decent suggestions for alternative? I liked the fact you could run 700 and 650b.
Annoyingly this bike was well specced for my £1,500 limit.
Maybe Fugio...?!
(I dont want a fucking Arkose btw)
That's almost long enough for my gearing..
