  • Ah ok, might not be what I'm looking for then. Is there another, less insulated alternative? I'm really after something quite versatile that I can wear for several months of the year with various layers underneath.

  • I was out in a PTJ today with a short-sleeved Merino (non-Rapha, Oh the shame) baselayer under it. Definitely not boiling, despite the liberal amounts of sunshine and allegedly 13degC. Admittedly, it's possible the biting cold 20mph winds may have had something to do with that.

  • This is great prompt, products I thought were slightly mundane but actually have an interesting path. I don’t think I have any photos but definitely saw the skunk stripe sunburn from the open mesh stripe. Jersey sag?! ...and the hidden pill pocket? Good story label too.

I’ll do a full write up on a product (tbd) in a few weeks, get feedback, and figure things out from there.

  • It had enough details to suggest someone either thought big or put a lot of their heart into it. Details that never reappeared on anything else so it likely missed the mark a little, but I enjoyed it. Plus I get irrational joy from products that are an evolutionary dead end for one reason or another (c.f. iPod shuffle 3, far too far in a certain direction)

  • On PBP in 2015 the pockets of that jersey allowed so comfortably full they made me think I had to check they weren’t hitting the rear wheel.

  • Why Brevet over PT? (I haven't used the Brevet)

  • IAmNScoot, but the Brevet gilet has an internal taffeta liner which the Pro Team doesn't have. Makes it more comfortable and gives an teeny bit of extra insulation.

  • Brevet’s insulated on the back and PT isn’t?

  • Hmmm, possibly. I have a PT Insulated Jacket but not the gilet. That seemed a niche too far.

  • Brevet looks piss thin though in comparison to PT.

@PhilDAS correct, assumption is you'll be doing efforts and shitting any remaining heat out of your spine.
Whereas Brevet is assuming you'll be hiking a bike over a some bastard wuthering heights bullshit with an omniwind.

  • For general cold start club cafe rides and autumn/winter short interval/training rides, not epic adventures, what's better out of the PT and brevet insulated jerseys? Club mate had a new pro team jacket on yesterday with the fleece inside, I assume that's what the gilet has? I just want something pocketable. I have an OG PT training jacket or whatever it was called and find I get uncomfortably hot as soon as the road goes uphill at the moment. Once it hits closer to 0 degrees it's perfect.

Edit: looks like this is sort of answered above. I've wanted a brevet one for a while as everyone seems to love theirs but I'm just wondering if a PT would be a better option for faster/harder rides.

  • Hi Guys, actually interested by the Cargo Bib short from Rapha.

Can someone please educate me on the differences between Core and Pro range ? Is it really worth the 100$ difference ? Thanks :)

  • 100$ to stop people from being able to see your arse after ride 5

  • Bah, seen plenty of people's arses in plenty of other high brand bibs. Do you even know someone if you haven't stared into their sauron's eye for three hours?

  • The Burner is brilliant for this time of year - Cool starts, changeable conditions. Adds so much versatility for v little weight/bulk.

  • Thanks, that was another thought. I still feel like it'd be cold even though I know, really, that it wouldn't be.

  • So it was 13 degrees with an 6 degree windchill. Sounds like PTJ weather :)

Had forgot about my LS brevet windblock jersey, should have worn that the last few times out. Perfect for right now in the SE, before it gets Cold.

  • So it was 13 degrees with an 6 degree windchill. Sounds like PTJ weather :)

Good point! It must also be time to dig out the proper Winter Jersey as well.

  • I've lost mine but loved that jersey. Even if the arms were reminiscent of

  • 10 degrees with a feels like of 4 at the weekend. riding partner was out in shorts and short sleeves. wth

  • I was lucky to inherit the Mk1 design, so cant take credit, but was able to work on updates over the years. Exactly as you say, so much refined attention to detail, when the other jerseys on the market were relatively basic polyester.

And that’s a good point; there were some great products, that owners swore by, but just sank. Softshell Gilet, Fixed Jersey, original Winter Gloves. I dropped out of bidding on a Medium Hooded Tracktop when it got to well over £100 last year!

  • Lower centre of gravity through the corners!

  • Hmmm not sure you want my estuary drawl rambling on, before being served up conspiracy vids and life hacks.

I’ll get something together in a few weeks, make a thread on here, before figuring out where to host - maybe a bit of everything....

  • Softshell Gilet

Still use mine throughout the winter, superb piece of kit.

  • When you say sank, do you mean they weren't popular enough?

    Fixed Jersey

Still see these out and about (100% merino long sleeved short zip?). Thought they were v popular in terms of sales. I've recently given one away, still kept one but it doesn't get that much use.

    Medium Hooded Tracktop

One of my most worn items of clothing over the years! That plus the 3/4 shorts. Wore two of the merino track tops til they fell to bits too.
