They are totally different. But I think that has more to do with construction and tube size than the tube itself.
The 653 is a traditional lugged skinny tubed frame/fork and it feels like it. A little flexy, really comfy and so much fun to ride. Its probably the best handling bike I own, it descends like an animal. It just holds onto corners.
The 853 is a modern steel frame, with fatter tubes/tapered headtube and a carbon fork. It feels like a CAAD12 with the road buzz taken out. Geometry is closer to the vintage frames though. Its a great ride.
How do the 853 and 653 ones ride? Is one 'better' than the other? Do you have a preference?
