  • No short sleeve non mesh merino baselayer bundle anymore?

  • Sorry to drop this on a Friday but the refine filters never seem to work admittedly I only use gender and size.

  • Ah different panels make sense too.

I agree. The PTTJ was great. Only not-amazing thing about it was the ability to dissipate heat and slightly too-close fit (for those using as an actual jacket - rather than just over a baselayer).

  • Only not-amazing thing about it was the ability to dissipate heat.

I think that's one of it's strong points. It keeps you warm if you're riding, but doesn't cook you. Not that great if you're just standing around waiting, but Pro Team baby.

... slightly too-close fit (for those using as an actual jacket - rather than just over a baselayer).

Never found the need to wear anything other than a winter baselayer under it myself. PTJ + winter baselayer is good for down to below freezing IME.

  • My bad. I meant it’s lack-of ability to dissipate heat. Which (if better) it’d be a bit more useful to me (particularly if you can get two soft layers underneath).

  • for those using as an actual jacket - rather than just over a baselayer.

An actual jacket does not require anything else than a base layer? Any extra layer hinders breathability.

  • If it’s a 2nd layer it’s a ‘winter jersey’. Fight me 😂

Not sure why you wouldn’t buy jackets that can get two layers underneath, even if you never get cold in the UK, just for the sake of versatility. We live in a pretty changeable climate.

  • Because a pro team jacket is very versatile as it is just based on base layer. It can go from a late autumn to deep winter garment just by going from a pro team base layer to a long sleeve deep winter base layer.

  • I wear it with a short sleeve merino baselayer and it’s limiting factor is only ever overheating. Don’t think I’ve ever got too cold while wearing it whereas I’ve wished I was in something lighter a few times.

  • My bad. I meant it’s lack-of ability to dissipate heat.

Never found that an issue myself. With just a baselayer underneath I've always found it easy to shed heat with a PTJ -just undo the zip. The front is windproof but the back isn't, which to me is its real charm.

  • If it’s a 2nd layer it’s a ‘winter jersey’. Fight me

Fight on. Third layer should be a gilet. Anything else, and you're wearing the wrong base layer. The climate's not that variable.

  • the new PTWJ looks very similar. I'm tempted to buy one to replace my aging PTTJ. they show it layered with one of the PT jerseys in the promos

  • I’ve been trying to follow the shakedry thread here and am clearly being dumb.
Is the Rapha pro-team lightweight gore jacket exactly the same as the gore shakedry, is it the same as the C7? And how does the white stripe on the arm affect the waterproofing? Is it printed?

  • Discounted Rapha x Palace bargain! Excess stock in TK Maxx next week.

  • Clearly I’m in the minority. I prefer a jacket to be the outer layer and usable with baselayer, but mainly with baselayer & jersey. The reason? I want to ride with a jersey when I take the jacket off. If you’re riding through the the night or over several days that’s important.

I agree for short rides a winter jersey (or jacket over baselayer) is fine.

    Unacceptable to lufgussers!

  • Rapha x Palace surplus stock available via Aliexpress

  • I don’t think it’s printed; here is the inside. I’ve not had a wet arm.

  • For anyone stuck on the layering thing, hopefully this will put everyones mind at rest;

The PT Jacket (now Training Jacket) actually started out as ...The Pro Team Winter Jersey. It was meant to be the PT version of the thick fleece-back Sportwool Winter Jersey, and using the 3-layer Polartec face, meant a highly protective/versatile jersey could be developed. It was in the vein of the Gabba, but trying to address the lower breathability of the high-stretch PU membrane.

The Polartec was extremely light for the time, and utilised an electrospun membrane (name escapes me). This was fantastic, apart from the end product didn’t really make sense - a £220+ long sleeve jersey, that was extremely light, such that it didn’t feel protective or good value (despite it being both)

So .....all the features were bumped up, No 5 zip, bigger zip guard, heavier construction on collar, more visual cues added ...and the Pro Team Jacket emerged (along with Charteuse colour, and a Eurobike award)

You can all ride easy, knowing it’s whatever you want it to be!

  • So, I’m trying to figure out the best way to put together product stories, that can include links/external resources, give credit to all involved, space for interaction/viewers to inc their own pics & comments etc. Not IG, setup a blog-type site? possibly start a thread(s) on here? Suggestions welcome!

  • Exactly - pretty sure it’s not printed, but is a separate piece of non-breathable retro-reflective fabric. EDIT; incorrect, it’s not reflective, but the printable version, see @PhilDAS comment below (I haven’t actually worn mine, but figured it was reflective from the pics)

And yes @Alan_tbt the PT Lightweight Gore-tex Jacket uses the same Gore Shakedry fabric, as on the Gore C7

  • It's going to be like the great Jaffa Cakes debate all over again. Jersey or jacket? Cake or biscuit?

  • why haven't rapha just done a straight rip of the gabba? i.e. same fabric with rapha styling. or is that what the shadow jersey is? seems like a pro team priced version of the same would sell like hot cakes

  • is that what the shadow jersey is?

Nope, completely different materials. I prefer the Shadow to the Gabba, as I find it has a wider usable temperature range. The Gabba's good when it's cold, but tends to get a bit clammy if it warms up, I find.

  • LFGSS triumphantly turning up to court with a giant Pro Team Jacket! 😂
