  • @chiroshi How did you find the Candide's?

@punkture the cochise DYN are on the list of possibles as well. Thats a bargain for the atris.

Splashed out last year on the black crows corpus jacket. It's not garish.

  • I really like them. They're a really surfy and playful powder skis and light enough so that you can do an hour or so skin and still have the legs to really enjoy the descent. For days with 20cm+ they're a really good choice. I have a pair of Candide 2.0 too which is hands down my favourite all mountain (100mm underfoot) ski I have ever used.

On the contrary, my new skis are a similar shape to what I had before with a straighter side cut and tapered tail. This I prefer in steeper or cruddy snow as it means you can really easily break them out of the turn and slam the brakes on.

  • On the subject of shiny new gear, is anybody interested in a never worn Marmot Spire jacket in medium (sic)? Sadly the cut is too "athletic" for my more "pie-eating" physique, so I've tried it on (several times but, alas and alack, it's never grown those extra couple of inches that mean it would have fitted) and then hung it back up in the wardrobe. Very fetching two-tone red.

  • Treated myself to some shiny new Look Pivots for my Atris

  • Well in. I've got the same set up.

What length did you go for?

    174cm and I went for the 189.

  • Would anybody be interested in a pair of Head Freeflex Evo 11 bindings? Din range is 4-11, iirc. Only used about 3 times I think, before swapping them out for something shinier.

  • Ha we are the same height but I went for the 178s. You are clearly the gnarlier skiier!

  • @punkture I do like to charge.

Have a pair of mantras which are totally bombproof and ski like a fat GS ski, they are unreal at holding an edge at speed, with pretty much zero chatter. Pretty good for all over the hill but they were frustrating in powder as you really had to work to keep the tips up, despite the width and a really slight tip rocker. So the atris were my solution for going fatter and floatier, but still being able to rip up all over the hill. Was a family trip last year (with two year old) so never really got to test them out as much as I'd have liked but for a few wee hikes and some freshies, they were superb.

Quite liked them on piste but a different vibe to the mantras. They feel like they can stop on a dime, totally precise edging, you really have to drive them as well (don't know if its my style or just the skis, but this feels totally natural on them), while the atris are nowhere near as directional. Was fun to be back popping off features a bit more though.

  • Yeah I've skied the atris a few times over the last few years and really enjoyed em. Have only really used them on days when we were skiing mainly powder or out of bounds but the times I have skiied them on the piste they have been pretty decent on piste, just slow but that's what you get when you ski a 108 underfoot fatty on groomers. For me, my Atris are for off piste only. Will use piste skis for the piste.

I skiied the Blizzard Quattro RS in tignes last year when the snow was shit so we were confined to the pistes and they were so much fun. Super stiff and seriously fast. Like skiing on rails. I want a pair despite them being pricey but can't find them anywhere in my size.

I think it's all about a two ski quiver although the ideal is to have a third all mountain like a mantra which is for skiing in bounds and allows you to pop off the side of the pistes while still being able to go hard on piste

  • If we want to go skiing in France in the New Year is the smart money on a two week quarantine once there, and also once back again?

  • Anyone think that a euro trip is remotely possible for 2021?

  • Hard to tell.

With the UK travel ban, Austrian lockdown and Uk quarantine requirement on return, I suspect 2020 is out of the question for us. I suppose if all our respective lockdowns work there is a chance that restrictions will be lifted at some point before the snow melts in 21...

  • I've not cancelled mine yet. On the other hand, I've not paid for it yet either...

  • I think I drift off to sleep thinking about being on the snow every night now days. Its the hope that gets you.

  • No quarantine for Canary Islands http://www.teideski.com./

  • Switzerland also quarantine free at the moment - if you can stomach the prices.

  • I really want to go skiing, it’s going to be a last minute purchase though and I’ll likely drive over (if European)

  • Scotland?

  • Usually go to Switzerland (Laax) or Austria (Lech) for a boys trip. We're talking about it for 2021 as the only up front cost would be flights (LHR to ZRH) and those are movable for a small fee (or usually free as one of the Gold members books it all for us). The usual hotels have already offered us refundable deposits on our bookings. The rest doesn't need to be booked way in advance (transfer or rental car), ski hire, etc.

Family trip to France (Font Romeu) definitely canned for half term next year, we book in piecemeal way in advance to keep the prices down and can't risk non-refundable accommodation/flights/rental-car. Will save the money for 2021 and have a better one in 2022.

  • No quarantine for Canary Islands http://www.teideski.com./

Has anyone gone skiing here? It's tempting (if it's not shit).

  • I have a week in Tenerife booked over Christmas (booked at Christmas last year). I currently rate my chances of going at about 50:50, if I do make it out there I'll try to check it out for a day

  • 4 lifts, 15km of slopes. Might be ok for a day or two?

Update, apparently the resort website is a joke: https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=2965895

    hilarious

  • If I have to quarantine when I get back I'm still getting out. I'm not having a winter off if I can help it!

Might have to drive out and make it two weeks at once to justify

  • Being uphillers we don't even need lifts to be running. Clinging on to the dream. If travel is possible, its going to happen.
