  • A couple of dumbbell curls, it’ll be fine...

  • Ha ha no sorry absolutely not i just made a comment on this thread (I'll start something properly in the training section on here) as @Acliff was talking about strength training and his comment was relevant to me. I'm never going to win any sprint or a hill climb ever but I'd definitely do better in the races i do if i was a bit more punchy. I'm a real diesel now and when I get dropped its never on a steady state section its usually on an acceleration out of a slow corner or on a climb when i kicks up suddenly and i always get shelled in any sprint. My fatigue profiling in testing sub 5 minutes has always been terrible. I know a couple of dumbbell curls isn't going to suddenly make me any quicker i was just asking a general question on training as it seemed relevant to an area if training i definitely need to work on. Sorry for derailing the thread and good luck to all the proper racer boys at the nationals 💪
    EDIT : I've tried to pick this back up on the training thread if anyone wants to make any suggestions or mock my numbers over there?

  • Went and did a few reps of Swains Lane this morning at nats race pace - very helpful prep. Also practiced some one-handed clipped in starts, also very useful.

    For anyone racing the Nationals, the starting post is like this photo. Key things I learnt today are:

    • If you have the time and a steep hill / path / whatever close to you, go practice
    • Right foot at 2 o'clock as you'd expect, easiest gear
    • Sit right on the very nose of the saddle, let go, grab bars and pedal. The nose of the saddle thing is not something I would have discovered without testing it out

  • Nah. Had Three chances to try a clipped in start this season and only took one of them, on Sunday.

  • I asked there if I could practice it they didn’t Beecroft found similar to you.
    If possible I’d only add practice which gear on the day.

  • LVCC hill climb on Mott St cancelled

    It is with great sadness that we have to cancel the 2020 Mott Street Hill Climb.
    Due to take place on the 1st November, it is no more.
    A variety of factors contributed to its cancellation, one of the biggest was covid followed by a slight mishap with the dates...
    Here's to 2021 having nothing cancelled!

  • That's a bit of a shame, but tbh amazed we got as many race in this year as we did!

  • I know right? I think I’ve only had three out of a potential 12 cancelled.

    Hat to the organisers and volunteers for persevering.

  • I've gone down a rabbit hole of vo2 training threads on the TR forum and related blogs from coaches, getting sold and convinced around the whole "hard start" 30/15s sessions for when the time comes.

    Did you do Rattlesnake for example?

  • Not done that particular one but it looks good. Flying 30s and Tabatta intervals are part of Matt Clinton’s HC training plan, and he knows his onions.

  • Tom Bell's a big advocate who's flying this year as well

  • Thanks for putting me onto Tom Bell. Been reading his articles and watching the YouTube vids. Interesting stuff, scientifically grounded with some insights I’ve not heard before (mainly cause I don’t normally read this stuff mind). Also cool that he shares so much info and advice. It’s obviously an effective marketing campaign as I’m considering doing a consultation with Hard North. Could be a good fit - get his advice and insight on my plateau then implement the advice myself with TrainerRoad.

    The even cheaper version would be just nailing Rattlesnake and Brasted which seem to be their version of some of the ideas.

    Hmm, not really just watched a few while doing an easy turbo. His ideas on low cadence SS and basing VO2max intervals on HR are quite interesting. Wondering when the best time to get in touch is... I guess next week while the season is still fresh in my thoughts.

  • I wonder how well he does at nationals might affect how busy he is.. But while your experience of things is fresh feels sensible.

    I watched a few other bits of his, seems keen on the polarised side of things as well
