  • good call, thanks.

  • My cat mate feeder has packed up (will it runs one cycle then forgets it's settings). Is there an automatic feeder out there that will actually measure the weight of food delivered? I got told Buddy's on the upper end of the weight he should be. Obviously I could just weigh portions but I'm not keen on getting woken up at 6am for food time.

  • Herman just effed off through the 8cm gap between our and the next door neighbor's balcony. Impressive but annoying all the same.

  • Poor Fabric's new pain killers stopped working for him in the last few days and he's back to struggling to move his rear legs. Was literally just dialling the vet to arrange an appoinbtment and he tried to jump onto a shelf, slipped and had a fall. He didn't get up after that.

Rushed him to vet where they have found that his heart has fluid around it and he is struggling to breathe. Raised euthanising him with the Vet who once again seemed suprised and was talking about stabilising him and putting him on duretics. Tried to explain how much pain he is in on a daily basis regardless of any heart problems and he seemed to come round to the idea a bit.

Going to see how he is doing in a couple of hours but I think its time to stop trying new things. The poor guy is hurting and his quality of life doesn't justify that.

  • Awww poor fabric. Good luck. Horrible desisions to make.

  • Thanks mate.

Fabric died, very peacefully, in my arms earlier tonight. I'm heartbroken but also feel very lucky to have had him in my life.

  • Aww RIP Fabric x

  • That's a horrible decision to have to make, but you did the right thing pushing the vet along, you know what he was going through best. Sorry for your loss.

  • Thanks all.

The main issue was that the drugs to treat his heart failure would have meant that he couldn't have had his arthritis painkillers. If it wasn't for his joint pain we would have brought him home for a bit longer but sadly wasn't to be.

Our dog is devastated today! Running around the house looking for Fabric :(

  • Sorry to hear about Fabric, @Stonehedge - sounds like he had a very happy life.

  • Glad he went peacefully. Hope your OK as much as you can be. And hope the dog is OK too.

  • He's just doing a GDPR audit on some documents I have stashed in the bag

  • Took Jack to the vets yesterday for his annual check up. All good although he’s slightly overweight.

On the way back he decided to coil one out whilst inside his carrier, which my youngest had on her lap. Cue much hilarity as windows were opened, traffic lights delayed us and a request was made for a police escort to get us home as quickly as possible and escape the smell inside the car.

Jack seems to have taken the incident in his stride. After a jet wash, the cat carrier is ready to use again.

  • I feel for you. One of ours had a pee in the carrier whilst on the way back from the vet. Luckily we had a blanket in there which absorbed most if it but both cats were soiled and needed baths on the return home.

  • While it’s still very sad, it’s kind of a good way to go - he was at home with you in a place he knew and loved, not in a vet’s surgery full of strange smells and strange people. He had a good life and a peaceful end. RIP Fabric.

  • This is Basil, our new 6 month old rescue cat. Seems to have settled in.

  • James appears to have a deteriorating nervous condition, in his spine, that is causing him some issues with the muscles behind a certain point. This is evident in an unwillingness to jump, he's dragging himself up with his front legs when he wants to get onto something.

We are trying some arthritis drugs at the moment, but the vet thinks anti-inflamatories are going to be the way to go.

At 15 going on 16 he's high risk for the MRI (as it requires a general anaesthetic), not to speak of actual spinal surgery, so I think we're going to make him comfortable in his old age and see how things develop.

I know they're not immortal, and that this time always comes, but it's no fun.

  • Sad stuff reading about Fabric @Stonehedge and sorry to hear James is struggling @Dammit . Heart breaking stuff. Two absolute Cat Thread stalwarts there. x

  • Thanks Clive, really appreciate it. Must say, we're abit taken aback by how we have been feeling over the last few days.

Its a long shot but if your bet ends up prescribing Gabapentin let us know as we have a bunch left over from Fabric that I can easily drop round yours.

  • Am so sorry to read.

Love to you, jana and doggy.

  • My two went to the vets today, 6 month check up and injections. The tooth/gum issues have gone. So tooth brushing and oral/tooth treats and nuggets have done their thing.

Or that the first vet was fishing for work.
