  • Fancy selling me a Synthe? :)

  • Has anyone owned both a Giro Synthe and a Poc Ventral? What's the fit like on the Poc compared to the Giro?

  • Following on from the POC giro question, anyone know how a POC compares to a Kask?

Kasks seem to fit my head but the protone appears less comfy than the mojito I had. Interested in the POC but no idea on where to try on.

  • I've got a kask shaped head, and I didn't like the POC. Too narrow at the temples/ too deep front-to-back. Seems more oval, kask more round.

  • Ah ok. perfect feedback.

    Thanks!

    Any other suggestions?

  • oh yeah.

forgot I had one of them. was good.

    Thanks fixygod.

  • Little late - i've got a giro Cinder in medium, and have just bought a pic ventral air, also medium.

Both fit comfortably, the POC perhaps slightly snugger. Only other thing I can think of: if you push the helmet forward from the back (ie reach behind and push the helmet forward), there are two hotspots right at the back of your head, but you can't feel them normally.

Edit - got the names wrong, i've got a girl cinder, not synthe

  • Giro us always the answer.

  • Gotta say, i prefer the POC over the Giro

  • You need a very specific head shape for a POC to work - can make you look like you've got a mixing bowl balanced on your head.

  • I ordered the octal and ventral Air for this very reason.
The octal definitely fits that description, the front half of it is proper chunky.
IMO the ventral air is a lot slimmer than it looks in pictures, and not nearly as offensive. You don't look like toad from Mario.

  • Anybody have any suggestions for a helmet that work suitably for both trails and road?

  • POC have some new models. Order from wiggle try and send back if you can be arsed.

The omne is nice and no so pricey. Octal for comparison.

  • Anyone used a Specialized Align II or a MET Allroad and care to comment?

I've got an aero helmet at the moment but want a more vented, 'normal' lid for off-road and don't wanna spend much on something that will be eating rock every hour.

  • Met is a funny shape IMO, try before u buy boss... new spesh helmet would be my choice.

  • I have the Specialized Align II coming tomorrow, will let you know.

  • It just arrived and it feels great. Sits a bit higher compared to my Giro Aeon, but that's probably due to the MIPS system and feels very secure. Can't really go wrong for £40. Going for a ride in a bit.

  • Also looking for a cheaper, bash-able helmet. That Align II with MIPS looks good. I tried an Echelon II MIPS and it fits great but double the price (Align II £35 on Tredz with code). Wiggle / CRC still have some Mojitos on sale for about £50, with the lovely retention system and padding but no MIPS. Also quite a bit lighter than the Align. Align comes in sexy dark purple which would match my Octal though...

  • Went with an XL Mojito in dark blue / pink (officially max 64cm vs Align II's 62cm) as the prices are good and those older ones on sale will all be gone soon. About £10 more, 130 grams lighter, and I guess will be comfier and slightly better ventilated, but no MIPS. Maybe can actually wear a cap under this one with my massive head...

Update: Colour was kind of ugly so returned. Was nice and roomy though and I forgot how good that Mojito back of the head cradle is. Ordered the Align II instead, £35 on Tredz. Will update once I've tried it. Hopefully no crashes and won't need the MIPS but still nice to have I guess.

  • Align II arrived and is just right. Doesn't feel heavy, looks to be well made, actually an XL size, cradle is not height adjustable but fits securely, and the straps (again fixed position) sit well without touching the ears. Simple aesthetics but not at all ugly.

Would have liked the shell to come a bit closer to the tops of the ears as there's a bit of a gap there (silly really - seems too large for just sunglasses arms), and lower around the back of the head too. Oh and the clip on the neck strap is right in the centre which is a bit uncomfy - would be better slightly to the side to avoid Adam's apple. Other than that, for £35 very good.

  • Does anyone know, do all the planet X/carnac helmets fit the same? I got one to try (a croix) because it was a tenner and looked ok enough but it is a bit skinny for my head. They are so cheap I'd be happy to try a different model but if they are all made with the mold or however, they just aren't going to work. Any insights?

  • New helmet time as my Synthe is a bit tired. A new medium Synthe looks to be about £200, will I notice the difference between than a cheaper Giro?

  • Synthe isn't even the top line one anymore. Aether is. Much the same though.

  • Looking for a good helmet that doesn't look ridiculous, is not heavy and is well ventilated.
I think you can't have all these 3 features at the same time, a good road helmet like the Kask Protone doesn't look good imho but checks the other 2. Is there something that looks a bit like an old school helmet but is decently ventilated and does not weight 0.5 kg?
