You can improve the situation (sometimes) by using OSM maps instead of Garmin maps (or vice versa, depending on what you're riding)

It's because you have TBT directions turned on.
I like the arrows on the roads though. And most of the time the routes lie pretty much on top of each other. Do I lose the arrows when I turn off TBT?
@hippy: Do you mean I need to change a setting in my Garmin to use OSM maps instead of Garmin's?
-
• #1904
Yeah, depending on which Garmin is usually buried in Activity Profile (current profile) > Navigation > Maps > something about active maps and then you can go through and select/deselect the different map options. So, depending on which Garmin I'm using, it might have updated Garmin maps for say UK, but if I'm in Europe I'll have put on OSM maps. In this case I turn everything off except the EU OSM maps so it doesn't waste time loading UK maps.

Yep.

Makes sense. Thank you and hippy.

Anyone use Suunto on here? So far as I can tell you'll only be able to access stuff through the app in the future, no website, which seems a bit crap.

What's the forum recommended out-front mount for stem faceplates? The £5 eBay one I got is... ok, but nylon standoff washers don't fill me with confidence, and the quarter turn insert doesn't actually lock. Annoyingly, a legit Garmin insert doesn't fit, the screw holes don't line up

3D printed plastic? Not the ideal material for a stem plate mounting.

Have bought some of those mounts but replaced the nylon with this, cut with a pipe cutter, got 4 pieces so enough for two mounts.

I only have a saddle-rail mount for track bike, but they are pretty hard, tough nylon, and on the stem-mounts the standoffs are steel. Whether they are ideal or not, I don't know.

Ah, I didn't know they used metal inserts. Makes sense.

Using wahoo route to box Hill, didn't click 'route to start' and joined mid way through the route, now it won't let me join the route and keep going, the only option is to go back to start and start all over again, which isn't really an option. Any way to fix it?
-
• #1915
Re-loading the route has fixed that for me in the past.
-
• #1916
As it turns out, I selected the wrong route, which is why I couldn't see anything on the map...

Has anyone got a Garmin out front mount they'd be looking to sell?

I've got an adjustable stem bolt mounted one from Amazon that I'm not using, has a GoPro attachment underneath as well. One of these:

Does it cope well with offroad vibrations/abuse?
-
• #1921
I'm not sure, I've never actually used it. But I can't see how it would be a problem, I've never had my stem bolts rattle loose off road. Bit of Loctite on the bolt threads and I'm sure it'd be fine.

The concern is more with the tilt screw at the pivot, I usually tend to avoid these types, but I'll keep it in mind if I can't find a regular out front one

What's the current go-to option for turn-by-turn road cycling navigation?
Don't really need power / heart rate etc, I just want to be able to find the way without using my phone. If there is an option that allows you to choose destinations on the fly (like a sat nav) then so much the better.

• #1924
Just buy another phone with a power bank. Offline maps loaded up or OSMAND.

My overkill race setup is:
Garmin Edge 1030
Garmin etrex 30x
Waterproof Android phone w/ RWGPS and OSMAnd
Welcome to Garmin.
