  • Thanks, shame

  • My ride is in doubt tomorrow, my wife isn’t very well :-(

  • Ah boo. Wish her well from the HCers of lfgss

  • Yes wishing her well

  • ahhh hope she's feeling better soon (for the hill climbing availability and in general)

  • Thanks all, not helped that it’s be an all-dayer tomorrow.

  • I’m definitely not making it today.
If you could pass on my apologies as I’m not sure email will be checked before that’d be appreciated

  • So my hand is very much "not right" but this weather is too good not to ride so Ibruprofen and hope I don't need to shift on the front ring is my new racing strategy.

  • Can you get someone to tape your hand to the bars?

  • Can you send some of the good weather up north? I'm doing Holme Moss later and the weather is pretty miserable so far today

  • UoBCC hillclimb in Bristol today was a closed road event so Theo my eldest could ride, as he has been missing racing as cx has been cancelled.

  • Chapeau Theo!

And best of luck for Holmes Moss, that's a proper HC course...

I PR-ed the Bostal, unoffically 15 seconds quicker that last week, hand hurt like crazy now to eat and convince myself to go back out again for the second stage in a hour or so.

  • A DNS on Mill Hill from me, best of luck @dbr

  • Fair dos. Good work riding Bostal and PBing!

I did exactly the same time as last week... to the tenth of a second 🙄

Bit disappointing as everyone else seems to have gone faster. Did get delayed by a horse on the first ramp but I doubt that cost me the ten seconds everyone else seemed to knock off.

Big tailwind for Mill Hill and they’ve fixed the sketchy gravel & potholes in the middle. Should be fun, long as there’s no horses on the course.

  • Not entirely convinced the bonfire smoke helped much either!

In fairness it probably shows how good last weeks ride was, whilst the rest of us were spinning and slipping you nailed it

  • Saw some photos on Facebook and looked OK-ish, how'd you get on?

  • Haha it was okay. I got utterly soaked doing a recce ride, but had spare kit to change into. As a result of that, though, I was late starting my warmup, and there were 3 temporary traffic lights on my warmup route, all of which were red. So I missed my slot. A very kind timekeeper let me take a later start of another DNS, so I was able to ride and get a time. Still waiting to hear results. I was fairly happy with how I rode -feel like there was just that extra 5% that I couldn't quite get out.

  • Are there any smaller events left?

  • Lea Valley CC on Mott St this Sunday - see cjr and get a second chance at pacing.

Eagle RC might be doing their club HC on the adjacent Lippits Hill in the next couple of weeks - ask @Eagle_Glenn

  • Enjoyed Mill Hill a lot more than Steyning Bostal yesterday. Just haven’t managed to get a handle on the Bostal this year.

Tried Goat’s pacing technique for Mill - found my most recent best 8 minute power (August while recceing the Scottish Nats climb) and rode to that. Aimed for 120% FTP and ended up with 118% without too much fade at the end. Would do again for longer hills.

  • Farnham RC next Sunday

  • Yeah, Farnham and ESCA. Think ESCA is closed though.

  • How did you place on both?

I think that approach works well for more consistent gradients, I know Mill Hill has a few down bits but the ups look all quite similar. My best performance was on Warlingham, probably the most consistent gradient I’ve ridden.

  • Dunno yet. I’d be happy / surprised if I’m top 5. Didn’t seem like a great day for me.

The winner of Mill Hill took my KOM by 1 second! 😭
