I also think the current cultural references are really well done.

Looks interesting. Reminds me of World War Z (the great book, not the shit film)

Reminds me of World War Z
Oh really?!

In that it seems to be set after a zombie apocalypse. I always through WWZ would have made a great episodic thing, with each chapter being an episode but with an overarching narrative (the journalist’s story) linking it all together. Such a shame that film got rid of all the good stuff and left all the stuff that’s already been done to death.

Started watching Utopia
Mrs told me it was a remake, so started watching Utopia.
They're both pretty good.

Channel 4 is the one. 1st series is incredible TV, especially when you consider it's 7 years old already.
-
• #6208
Which should I watch first - Utopia?
-
• #6209
I'd thought exactly the same myself. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the audiobook was something special too.
-
• #6210
I'd go for Utopia first.
Although I'm actually watching them in parallel, to try and avoid too many obvious spoilers.
-
• #6211
Not sure I could handle that - think I'll start with Utopia and go from there

@soul (and anyone else) whilst people are talking about TVs, did you consider anything else when you got your flat mount one? My main priority is neat, flat mounting rather than picture quality (it's going in the kitchen) so the LG ones are a bit spendy for that.
Samsung Frame seems the obvious other option but any searching for slimline TVs, etc only gets me wall mounts

I was tempted on the frame myself as I really liked the aesthetic of it. However when I looked at the TV I really really underwhelmed by the quality for the price. However if they came down a little in price I'd be convinced.

I have had LG OLEDs for about 5 years now and swapped to Samsung QLED 65" 'flat mount' when we moved in March last year.
Picture isn't as good - obviously black levels is the easy argument but I found Samsungs picture settings to be less flexible, oversaturated in places and not as realistic as the LG. It also didn't have as many HDR formats (no dolby vision, no HLG10 etc). It was an older set so fair enough but also no VRR, gsync or high refresh rate.
Software / features aren't as good - it tried to phone home around 200-300 times a day and served me ads in the menu. Despite promises at launch, it never supported pass through HDMI for Atmos via ARC and only the Netflix app (sometimes) supported it.
It also wasn't really flat mount and stuck out from the wall.
If you're looking for style over substance then the Samsung Frame definitely looks great and the optical cable / control box setup is the one thing they do better than LG.
For everything else, I think LG deliver a better product.
It took me just over a year to get so fed up with the Samsung that I've switched back to LG for the main TV. The LG 65GX i have now will last me until 8k gaming is possible so ~5 years minimum. £3k is spendy but considering how much it's used; especially in the current global situation, it seems like a bargain.

Blimey, just watched it... 😬

• #6216
Of course, i guess it depends what the situation is but the other option is recessing an ordinary OLED TV - you could probably get a builder in to take back to brick, channel a recess, plaster and decorate for the difference between a 55 CX and 65 GX.

OG Utopia was amazing, I hated the most of the first episode of Utopia, seemed cheap and badly shot, but the end of it, and subsequent ones have been much better, gonna stick with it now.
-
• #6218
Really enjoying this one-a-week format too.
-
• #6219
It'll never catch on.

• #6220
anyone else for Raised By Wolfes? Is it all in the Aliensiverse? i reckon it is.
the Cape Town scenery is nice...

• #6221
Shame the OG Utopia was cancelled after second season
-
• #6222
I have more questions after last episode. Wtf is going on on that planet.
-
• #6223
It was great, no idea what the fuck is going on and loving it.
-
• #6224
Just needs to avoid going all "lost" and know what's going on itself.

Yeah I’m really enjoying it. So much questions! (No spoilers please!)
New Walking Dead spin off on Amazon. The Next Generation, so to speak.
