Yeah our contractor said the problem with large panes are that they are heavy so opening and closing them requires a strong motor, and all that costs £££££.
Velux is coming in at around £2500 for 3 standard windows and one that opens.
The maximum we can have is two windows at 1 metre x 2.5metres.
I found this which comes in at £3k for 2 windows of 1m x 2m which is good but not perfect

our architect said panes of glass (provided they were standard sizes) would be cheaper than velux, because e.g. they don't include an opening mechanism etc. we ended up with velux windows, nevertheless - think the builder had some stock left over from a previous build lol
