My girlfriend preordered a Series S, so it turns out the £250 price just about puts them in impulse purchase territory. If they have enough ready before xmas they could sell absolutely millions.

I put in a preorder for the S too - my logic is:

• hate the PS5 design
  
• going to be no new PS5/Xbox 4 games for a couple years anyway
  
• and even then I only ever buy them when they drop after 6 months to £15
  
• in the interim, will just work through the game pass things I didn't get round to on PS4
  
• series S can play Xbox 4 games anyway, so can still pick those up and play (presumably even through game pass for some of them?)
  
• design is small/unobtrusive enough that I can live with it in my bedroom
  
• by time the PS5/X4 have built up a catalog, they'll either have redesigned the PS5 or I'll have learned to live with the S only
  
• probably continue to do most of my (now, admittedly, limited) gaming on the switch in any case
  

It looks like Game's website doesn't do the thing were it reserves your order while in the basket so lots of people were trying to checkout to then get an error, so they've taken the website down. It'll potentially be possible to order a Series X when it's back up but it's pot luck as to when that will be. Otherwise they're not sold out everywhere even on the MS store.

So if I've got a 1080 TV and don't plan to upgrade any time soon, X isn't worth it?

If so, anyone see how do order an S on the gamepass subscription deal?

Yeah, no point if you don't have a 4k TV.

Only places you can do All Access subscriptions is Game (broken) or Smyths (also broken).

Weird the MS shop doesn't do the subscription thing. Clicked around for a while trying to work it out. I thought that was the biggest selling point!

They do in the US but guess they decided to work with retail partners in the UK...

Smyths does do delivery but the site is currently down. Keep checking this page for them... the notice at the top is currently saying site is down.

I have GPU until Feb 2022 at the moment. Will be activating my 24 month GPU in Feb this year as it will convert my existing year and give me three years total.

Yeah but apparently Microsoft is removing the 2 and 3 year game passes from sale.

can I not just buy 3x 12 months of live/gold and then convert it to GPU for £1?

That's what I did, also buying a non english subscription so think I ended up with 3 years for around £80

One where I suspect the most relevant answers will be on this thread.

I'm looking at adding storage to an Nvidia Shield (Android based). It has a USB 3 port. Should I be looking at a flash drive, USB HDD or USB SSD. Can't work out whether USB 3 is a bottleneck for an SSD and the info on flash drives seems pretty minimal. Cheers

USB 3 SSD will still be faster than a standard HDD.

Flash drive will die pretty quickly; they're not designed to be written to that often.

I'm still tempted by the X despite not having a good enough TV... More machine than I need. Just like my bikes.

I've been looking at new TVs specifically because of the X. I don't think either will happen tbh.

Well, could probably stretch to the extra £20 a month on top of gamepass for the console, but that'll be a little pointless without the new TV to make it all look wonderful.
