What's it like to live in Brixton / Brixton Borders

  • I went to Brockwell Park yesterday in the car and my normal route is down Railton Road. They've now closed the Herne Hill end off to all traffic unless bike, bus or delivery vehicle.

Really annoying as Milkwood Road is fucked due to them digging up the road so I have to go through Brixton.

Seems to be happening all over, another former back 4oad run through Albert Sq has also been closed off.

Its getting a bit of a pain in the arsenal

  • I rode down Railton Road with my kids the other day and it is a joy, no fumes, no speeding cars, no log jams.

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods may have some teething problems and some slightly sub optimal implementations, but they are part of the solution, not the problem.

I'd hope that, on here at least, we could get behind them.

Milkwood road was closed for three days, as the result of a long running safety campaign to improve the speed calming measures and install a safe crossing for school children. This follows at least two incidents of children being involved in RTCs and over ten incidents of speeding cars causing significant damage when colliding with parked cars.

There was a short diversion around the works, via Lowden or Fawnbrake. Herne Hill Road -> Herne Hill was another option that avoids Brixton.

Come on fella, you can do this!

  • I was going to be rude, but @mashton was far more diplomatic than I would’ve been and said what needs to be said.

  • as a driver of an utter cuntmobile, i really have no problem with folk wanting to take back control of the roads that service their neighborhoods. wish they'd block more roads off round our endz. a minor inconvenience at best.

they could be slightly better signposted tho.

  • They did block off some around silverdale, where, appparently A LABOUR PERSON LIVES.

Our ends? Fuck yeah. WPR should be blocked off.

  • Send all the buses down Longton.

  • For the times when I am driving it's a (small) pain that a lot of the usual cut-throughs have been flower-boxed off (Crystal Palace, Streatham, Wandsworth, Balham is particularly severe). But will get used to it and it's much better for cycling/walking so it's worth the small inconvenience of having to re-learn routes.

  • have you seen all the NO TO 5G MASTS signage on Longton? Got taken down but they're back.

  • Every time I’ve gone down Milkwood there’s one or multiple cunts blasting through like it’s a fucking racetrack. When they repaved it a while ago, Herne Hill, Lowden, Fawnbrake got the spillover of these imbeciles racing through, except drivers on Fawnbrake and Lowden don’t have the visibility they have on Milkwood.

  • Loads of minor road closures around Crytal Palace/Church Road. The locals on the FB group are apoplectic.

I take Milkwood to get to the MiL's. S'very bumpy now, innit? Still doesn't stop drivers of cuntmobiles from screaming past the mighty Panda for pro-dickmove overtakes.

  • Railton is lauded as one of the best amongst pro LTN groups .. we admire it from Lewisham :)

  • Is the park too far to cycle, walk or get the bus to?

  • Surprised about the LTN things. Has there not been kick back???

  • We’ve got a car appreciation thread, one where people show off their £5k watches and now we’re getting an anti-LTN thread?

    LFGSS sure has changed.

  • who's anti LTN? if anything there seems to be support for them.

  • I DID A WTF?
I agree they're a problem. ALL THAT CORONA ON THE NETWORKS

  • Would you bus right now?

  • MAYBE HAVING ALL THE FUCKING TRAFFIC ON THE MAIN ROAD WILL SHOW CUNTS WHAT THE FUCK THE FUCKING PROBLEM IS EH?

  • Yes, I would and I have.

  • Same. But I'm no fan.

  • With a baby, a 6 year old and a wife that doesn't cycle its not easy to use alternatives and for various reasons (well one reason that has a 19 in it) we're off public transport so for a family trip it is a car. If its just me and the 6yo we do go on bikes but for all of us and buggies etc cars the only viable option at the moment

@mashton it wasn't the works on Milkwood but the digging up the road under the bridge in HH causing issues. It was only managing to let 2-3 cars through the lights so I've got caught for an additional 30 minutes there last week.

I'm a bit of a Nimby as when our road was closed (gas main) i loved the peace and quiet.

  • Two updates, we had a stabbing outside my sons nursery on Stockwell Rd today (i think it was a fatality) and so had the heli landing and a dozen police cars

And on the Railton Road issue some interesting comments on the Brixton Blog about the LTN

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/brixtonblog.com/2020/09/huge-support-for-brixton-low-traffic-neighbourhood/

  • the quality of graphic design in sw2 sure has taken a dip since joe fucked off.

  • Back in the day when commuting was a thing, I used to take Shakespeare Rd rather than milkwood to go between HH and Loughbourough. Good to see they are tackling Milkwood.
Didnt know about Railton, and was pleasantly surprised last week when cycling there w the girlfriend. She is normally not very confident with the bike and was loving it, so it is definitely helping people overcoming some fears around cycling/walking in London

  • saw the police and police cordon round there.
I'm assuming they closed the nursery.

We looked at sending jnr there, but found a nursery closer to home, which we liked more.
