More expensive than the model 3 (for the “370 mile” version. Monthly payment is 20% more.
No charger network.
No thanks.

True - I’ve read that test.
I’d rather trust people like Fully Charged, or even carwow that did a motorway test with all the major cars in one go (therefore identical conditions). Tesla LR wins every time.

This is my defender “build”: https://build.landrover/C3F51D11
They want something like £900 a month and a £6k deposit.
Fuck off.

are those newfenders ulezable?
not a fan myself. looks like you'd be terrified to do anything defendery in it for fear of dinging the plasticy looking bits at the front / back.
it's probably got (spits) aircon.

That ain't a Defender, just another Chelsea tractor. No farmer would ever chuck a few bags of feed and a couple of sheep in the back of that.
-
• #57584
No idea but they’re Euro 6 so imagine so...
Agree it’s no longer a Defender in the same way. Nice though.

• #57585
I dunno man, you're probably better off in an ovlov, you'll get more for your money and look better getting there.

Fair enough, seems a very large premium for a few extra miles but I appreciate the charging network and performance during those miles may swing things.
Edit: we’re looking at a Niro/Kona PHEV to replace our 5 series. 7/5 years warranty on a nearly-new model seems fairly future proof and 90% of our driving could be done fully electric.

Let’s say a van costs 30k, what’s the nicest car I could get for that money which underlines now silly buying a van is?
-

DB9 ?
You'd need to include the price of the red trousers, which would tip that over the budget

AMG R63. They're rare as hen's teeth, but should be under 30k. Huge load space. 4WD and the AMG 6.3 V8. Bit fugly though.

• #57592
Nah. Would either go full electric (Tesla is the only viable choice), stick with the RR I’ve got as that’s a zero cost option or get something I really want (ie defender).
Not looking to change just so I can drive a beige mobile.

Save 25k then spend it on keeping it on the rd

We’ve already got a Renault Zoe full electric for local journeys but it claims 250 miles and would struggle to deliver 150 miles at 75mph indicated with two people, a child and a buggy.
E-Niro et al all appear to be the same. They can’t match the Tesla for watts per mile at speeds above 50; which discounts them as the long distance car for the two main reasons we’d buy it:
- Going to my parents place in France - 700 miles / 10 hours
- Going to the football (when that’s a thing again) - 20+, 200 mile round trips a year which are 95% motorway.
Anything that isn’t a Tesla is impossible for trip no. 1 and even the longer range alternatives are pushing it in winter / spring for trip no. 2.
Plus, the Kia with the big range is only 20% cheaper than the LR Tesla which is a premium I’m happy to pay for the technology, cabin environment, performance and range.
- Going to my parents place in France - 700 miles / 10 hours

Actually folding down seats might not work. I love them though
-
• #57596
They are a fantastic thing, I suspect that (from the side profile) you'd struggle to get a kids tricycle in the back.
-
• #57597
True, do love the madness of them though.

And total money pits. Not that that would bother Dammit.

I think, to Neil, that’s a feature...
He’s a bit of a bellend but there’s no other electric car alternative if you want 250+ miles consistently.
Also, the Defender will genuinely end up 30% more expensive monthly on lease without fuel / tax / servicing costs. A lot of money.
