  • Pretty sure i'm shopping in the Velar for a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD next month.

Looking at PCP & PCH. PCH (lease) comes out much cheaper when it comes to overall cost of ownership (nearly 25% cheaper!).

Why wouldn't I do it? I'm not at any point considering buying the car at the end of the lease, considering Tesla's build quality and the rapid development of electric cars...

Looking at a 24 month deal (36 at most).

  • I leased the Skoda for 24 months.

My main concern is what the wear and tear will translate to at the point where I hand it back.

Put a nice scratch in to the internal trim yesterday with the pram. go me.

  • That Shuttle sold this morning, looking at something a bit older, what's wrong with this?

  • 149k miles & 15 years, & LWB so harder to park. But does look OK

  • ~10,000 miles per year feels ok, no?

  • That a lot of miles and time for problems to be developing though.

  • True. I'm basically betting that van parts are cheap. There's no part of this that could go wrong.

  • I mean, you seem to like rebuilding engines.

  • And automatic gearboxes.

  • And German marques.

  • New car day today, potentially. Still waiting for them to MOT it/the MOT register to be updated. Bit of a pain in the arse tbh.

  • Which brings me to my next question: what’s the best way to sell a banger? I’m going to MOT it, and it has always been reliable, but it’s a 15 year old Astra with 135k on it. Am I best scrapping it? How much do you even get these days? Kinda annoys me as it has 4 good tyres, and I recently did front pads and rotors and rear shock absorbers.

Assuming I can get a fresh MOT, is getting £300 even realistic? It’s never broken down, always starts first time.

Edit: I love this car like a bastard.

  • Arguably any car with legit MOT is worth £300.

  • Try motorway.com anyway to see what the pay to take it away vendors will give you for it. Check autotrader for similar ones, list it for slightly less and get a quick sale.

  • I would try and get a decent length test drive in with a Transporter, if you're tall. I found the driving position pretty uncomfortable after an hour or two, mostly the way the pedals sit and how your ankle has to flex

  • Probably get 150-200 scrap so 300 with an mot will be easy

  • Nothing from DynoTorque, hopefully that's good news.

  • Good to know, how tall are you?

  • 196, I guess I can't expect to be perfectly comfortable but thought it worth mentioning

  • You’re 9cm taller than I am, but I do recall the last time I drove a transporter it was a shit driving position. I’m just counting on being able to fix that if it’s a problem.

  • Arguably any car with legit MOT is worth £300.

That’s kinda what I figured. I’ll try and get £400 and settle for £300

  • Fuck yeah, MOT is finally through so will collect the 320d today!

  • Another six months to wait in order to get those BBS LM's. The humanity.

  • Should've just got some halfords specials.
