I enjoy parts of Lovecraft Country but isn't the storytelling really stupid? For example in EP 3 that scene after they smash up their racist neighbours cars. Just Leti get's arrested but the whole
purpose of the arrest was to tell her to look into the history of the house? By the guy who was part
of the evil experiments? Why would he do that? Then they let her go like nothing happened so she can investigate?
Or the way they handled Tics dad capture. You don't see any evidence of where he is or what happened, they just deduct from magical thinking he must be in that tower. Then they find a hole in the wall and boom he is coming out of the ground, they are standing next to him and it's just "Oh hi, let's run away."
It feels like they don't know how to resolve scenes properly so instead just jump to something else.

  • It's a show about magic, wizards and secret societies of course there stupid storytelling in it. that's what's Good about it. It's daft enjoyable TV. Don't question it too much. Stick the kettle on get some crisps and forget about 2020 for 45 mins

  • Yea, but the quality of storytelling or technique is independent of the content. The OA had a bonkers story as did the Leftovers but I thought they were great and I had no problem following or believing in what was happening in their world.
Lovecraft Country just doesn't flow well. Maybe it lacks humour but then their put themselves in a corner with that racism.
