  • 2 games today i got disconnected when it got down to 3 teams remaining. first time I managed to get back in somehow just before the ring closed in and killed me and went on to hit the game winning shot in a 1v1 with a noscope longbow headshot.

second time I just got dumped at the front screen. looking at my last game overview it seems like i got the xp and stats but my team placed 0/20 somehow.

  • Looking for a little input/advice about racing sim setups, if anyone has some experience:

I've been playing them since I was about 5, always with a controller, and have always wanted the full setup - especially as they've actually started to look like they work well. However, I rent a room, so space means it's not going to be possible at the moment.

I've been thinking of getting a Logitech G920 and the matching shifter second hand to clamp to a desk - would this be worthwhile, or just a bit crap? Currently playing Dirt 2.0 on the Xbox, and will finish Forza 6/maybe buy 7 or Assetto Corsa when my Game Pass runs out.

As an extra factor - my Xbox is currently in the lounge on the 50" TV with a sofa. The wheel would have to go upstairs on my 29" ultrawide. The xbox would letterbox that to about a 24" 16:9 screen.

  • There are definitely a few on here with much more experience than I, but I picked up an old Driving Force Pro (GT4 era wheel) for £50 on ebay to dip my toe in and it's great. Was considering a G29/920 but not sure if it's worth the jump in price from my current wheel. Only really jump between Assetto Corsa, GT4 & Enthusia (the latter two on PS2), well worth the money (and I'd have happily paid £200 for a modern wheel if it was as good as this).

Mine is just mounted on my computer desk so can't give much feedback on the console/screen issue unfortunately.

  • The G920 is fine but if you're really into sim racing, you'll want to shift to something belt driven.

Maybe the Thrustmaster TX or the CSL Elite? They're £££ but belt driven over gear driven any day.

  • Thanks guys, handy to know. I think (according to the internet) that the G29 is basically the same as the Driving Force Pro, so that's promising!

@Soul - I think a second hand G29 would be about the top of my budget for just giving it a go. If I had the space, I'd be happy to drop more money and also get the full rig as well as a better wheel in future.

    Fair.

I've been eyeing a Fanatec club sport setup with seat etc for a while but it's 1,800 EUR. If the wife ever found out that I spent that about of money, i'd be murdered.

  • FYI: G920 is Xbox, G29 is PS4
I have a G29, mounted to an eBay stand (was about £40), got the wheel on a black Friday deal.
(I haven't bothered with the gear stick, i like the flappy paddles)

When i was doing my research, the Logitech G29/920 was always the recommendation for "low" budget verses quality.
Anything cheaper tens to be much worse, and the next step up are much more expensive.

If you are not sure, defo go G920 (possibly 2nd hand on ebay?) because you'll get back what you paid for it if you don't get on with it/ want to upgrade.
Not sure what prices will do when the XBSeX / PS5 launch, depends on compatibility I guess.

  • Cheers - if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay on Black Friday? I was aware of that coming up in not too long.

I'm not planning on getting the next-gen console any time soon, but the newer G923 is now a single SKU for XB1/PS4/PC, so I imagine that'll carry on throughout? They seem like a good chunk more money for not really any benefit, though.

  • £120, last year for the wheel and pedals
This was on Amazon, lightning deal knocked £30 off the £150 BF deal as far as I can tell

The stand was similar to this, I probably paid about £45 for it, apparently it folds flat, but i haven't bothered (I have a spare room it lives in when not being used) also havent fitted the shifter holder as i don't have one.

  • Oh, nice! I was hoping to pick up wheel/pedals/shifter for £150 s/h, but maybe I'll wait for November and see if I can get new ones with a warranty for a similar price, then.

    Thanks all

  • I started off with something like a Driving Force GT. It's a slippery slope.

  • I'm very aware of that slippery slope! Until I can get a decent belt-driven wheel, pedals and stick for less than £250 or so, I'm sticking with my Driving Force setup

That is a damn nice setup though.

I would consider upgrading my seating to something like this though:

  • I’ve been using same Ikea chair for gaming for past 8 years. So good.

  • Finished the utterly sublime TLoU2, gone straight into a replay of TLoU Remastered and it looks clunky as heck!

It's not, but coming straight off the back of the sequel it just feels that way. Still enjoying reliving the first story knowing what I now know.

  • I started a second play though on Hard+ with my first game load-out and infinite ammo and unbreakable melee weapons, my reasoning being I could concentrate on enjoying the story and combat without rationing arrows and hammers too much, plus I could play a more satisfying stealth game

  • That was the only dud point for me, mooching around those grassy ruins. I guess it was supposed to acclimatise you and get you chatting to Dina about some major plot points but I was desperate to get back into the main story after clearing out a couple of buildings, hate doubling back on myself

  • Down in that hospital basement... christ!

Agree that it was stunning and the focus on Abby was a big surprise to me, and the new title screen once you've completed gives me some glimmer of hope.

  • I applaud your commitment!! 🙃

  • Goodness me I can't wait to play this!

  • I've restarted Bloodborne (again) as I have not progressed in this game, ever.

Managed to beat Blood Starved Beast after about 5 tries (not too difficult, but i kept getting poisoned and dying before i could antidote)

    Onwards.

  • I have the Platinum for Bloodbourne so can attest that once everything clicks you won't be able to put it down. I think at the start its mostly a gear check that forces you to grind up your level a little bit. Considering re-buying it to play through before ps5 drops as it was just so damned good.

  • I'm hooked, but stuck.
I'll find my way out eventually.

  • I am finally going to play TLoU Remaster once I finish Spider-Man...

  • Bypassed my backlog of PS4 games and started Ghost of Tushisima (spelling).

What an outrageously beautiful looking game.

  • What an outrageously beautiful looking game.

Unfortunately by far the best thing about it. It's definitely not a bad game, but I thought it fell a long way short of the hype.

Don't think I've ever composed haiku in a video game before, and with any luck I'll never have to again.
