Job lot of 2 limo and 1 hearse - if I buy them, anyone want a limo? I don't need them.

The marinas I go out of have probably 1 in 3 boats that actually move more than once a year. The rest are gin palaces moored as picnic spots to display one's wealth. Inland waterways don't do it for me, although I had a boat which I used on various large lakes, it was nicked! The inshore commercials I am normally on are not famed for their luxuries.

I've been dreaming of buying a stealthy camper since moving back to Ireland at the beginning of July, but i feel like a large part of that is influenced by the current situation and heightened demand.
In actual fact, I'd probably never sleep in one as I have a good tent, mat and bag, but the desire for a day van is still very real.
It would be nice to be able to drive to a trail centre with wife and dog, with bikes inside the vehicle, lap trails while wife walks dog, and not be under pressure to leave as soon as they're finished (ie somewhere nice with facilities to make tea and lunch, mobile Internet and a tv), while i finish riding.
It would also be nice to use it as a mobile office for a change of scenery on occasion.
The tax/insurance situation around private use of commercial vehicles is much more complicated in Ireland though annoyingly.

Reading it back it does sound more bitchy than I intended.
It was more about the fact that regular sized estates are similar in size to regular sized saloons and hatchbacks. If you want a properly big boot then you need a properly big car to start - like a Passat or an E Class. There is just no way of getting around that.
The same applies to getting a VW T#. If the dream is having vertically standing massive MTBs with their front wheels on and adults in the back then again you need a properly big van not a SWB one. Happy to be proved wrong, but I doubt that you can stand 3 full sus bikes with wheels in the back of a standard T5/6 with the back seats in. And it definitely wouldn't have a sink and hob. So to avoid having the same "didn't buy an E-Class", dammit needs a LWB Caravelle/similar.
FWIW I do actually like the idea of a camper and aspire to take a year out and travel round Europe in one. The logic there would be that; 1) a decent size vehicle would have to used for some bits of it and buying rather than occasionally renting seems to make more sense; 2) over a 9-12m period it should save on hostels/airbnbs even if you do mix and match at some points. It also means you don't have to be quite so brutal about what you take vs backpacking.

It's not on a foreign plate. Well, it is on an American plate, but with its UK registration number.
https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/VehicleFound?locale=enSo, not quite legal, but more legal than driving it on foreign plates.

It seems to me that what Dammit needs to do is buy a house in France and leave the bikes there. Then he won't need a Caravelle.

I know what I'd prefer. Okay, they can keep the wheels.

I'm tempted to take a couple of hundred thousand out of my flat here to buy a flat there, then split my time between the two - but the Brexit and therefore taxation situation has rather thrown a spanner in that.

I'm tempted to take a couple of hundred thousand out of your flat too, when are you next away?
I am taking bets on how long until that comment hits the golf club thread, I won't do it, it's too easy.

What's the score with car traders having a non-negotiable admin fee that is separate from the cost of the vehicle? Makes me immediately think "fuck off you greedy cunts".

Just bargain them down to the lowest possible figure and then, and only then, say 'lose that or lose the sale, your call'.
Seen locally; can you run something like this on overseas plates?
