  • Low. Not as low as your chances of winning the lottery but still very unlikely.

  • Is Jordan on the exempt list?
I hear drinking from a wooden cup will protect you from Covid

  • So how do you have a disscussion with some who went on the march to traflagar square today and not just call the a fucking idiot, and that they or any one they come in contact with should get any care.

  • From at least 2m away, presumably.

  • Study is over egging it a bit - it’s an analysis of various other reports. Then the came up with the chart. The chart is also problematic for various boring reasons. Tufte would be having kittens.

  • It is over the internet only.

  • Why should anyone quarantine when people others do not and nothing happens to them?

  • It’s a bit like why do some people put their litter in bins when others don’t give a fuck.

Be a selfish twat or not, it’s a personal choice

  • Is it selfish tho? As you say it is a personal choice, why should one be above the rules and others not. As an example Farage not quarantine for 14 days from his return from the US, Boris Dad, Dominic Cummins.

  • It is selfish putting other people live at risk.

  • If it is, as you say, so selfish then why aren't we (as a society) doing anything about Farage, Boris Dad and Cummins etc? We ( as a society) seem to be congratulating them.

  • Eighteen year old next door, just back from Greece on 26th. Her and the rest of the 6 person group all tested positive. Whats to bet the rest of the flight? Up north in Leeds, not the Cardiff one

  • You’re implying that we’re all ok about it.

I don’t know how you interpreted that society is ok with it.

  • I interpret society being OK with it, as nothing happening to the perpetrators.

  • Whats to bet the rest of the flight?

I know that China and Singapore have been keeping close tabs on Covid transmission on flights and on the face of it the risk of catching it is fairly low if everybody is wearing a mask and behaving. From memory one example was a long haul flight of 200 people with 11 infectious people on board...not one other passenger contracted Covid when tested over the following days/weeks.

There's a lot of ifs and buts there. Certainly sounds like the Cardiff flight wasn't taking the rules seriously. When we flew a few weeks ago, the outbound flight was busy but everybody kept their masks on and heads down. The return flight was carnage...kids and their parents running up and down the aisles, masks on chins, occasionally literally coughing on people. The BA crew continually instructed people to sit down and put their masks on but ultimately there's not much they can do to force people to comply. Felt a bit sorry for them...a difficult job in difficult circumstances.

  • Just remembering how much that wound me up. Cabin crew politely but firmly telling a child to go to their seat and put their mask on and then the parents immediately and loudly telling the child that they don't have to listen to the crew.

  • the parents immediately and loudly telling the child that they don't have to listen to the crew.

They get served the ‘special’ coffee (or tea)

  • They get served the ‘special’ coffee (or tea)

This reminded me of my only other covid flying gripe.

BA cabin crew announement: "You must wear your mask for the duration of the flight and avoid touching your mouth or face. You will be issued with a sanitiser pack to allow you to sterilise your hands and your tray table if you choose to do so."

Also BA cabin crew: "Here, have a packet of crisps and a cup of tea!"

People probably won't die of hunger or thirst if they aren't provided with snacks on a two hour flight.

  • If I'm paying for BA over Easyjet then I'm getting those free peanuts, deadly virus or not.

  • In NI/Ireland/Scotland people get forced out by public opinion/other politicians.

Not in England alas. There isn't a parliamentary mechanism for politicians undermining confidence in health measures by being covidiots / going against the spirit of the law. Parties can discipline but in the case of the Conservative party clearly didn't.

Bar a good general strike, which is very hard in the UK both culturally and legally, not sure what can be done. Asking politely isn't working clearly.

  • In England, they are announced as heros.

EDIT: Too early to make comments about Alex Salmond?

  • if everybody is wearing a mask and behaving

    Bingo

    Comparing different cultures..

  • These were supposed to be one post

loudly telling the child that they don't have to listen to the crew.

Did you say anything to the parent, mentioning the in case of emergency briefing on every aeroplane journey? As I would love to have the gravitas to do that.

  • Watching school kids playing and no one socially distancing. Not even the staff supervising.

The cover recent of charlie hebdo is very apt.
